Hey Im not saying I wouldnt want better work rules, thats why I voted ALPA. Im not so much concerned about me as much as the guys behind me, I can deal with some things. But yes Colgans pay isnt the greatest but with Colgan came a quicker upgrade. I was hired back in 07 at the tail end of the lower mins. I wanted Chatuqua, Express Jet, and Horizon but didnt quite have the time. And wasnt gonna go to Eagle cause of the long upgrade. So Colgan was my next choice plus I could be home every night. If I had waited for another company I would have been fuloughed or maybe never had gotten a job. Now Im close to upgrade and yes Ive struggled, but in my opinion I'm made a good decision.

An example of this is an Eagle pilot flying 60 hours but getting paid for 90 hours. The Colgan pilot more than likely is paid 60-70 hours at most.

Do you work at Eagle?
An Eagle pilot would not fly 60 hours and get paid 90 unless he was on reserve, didn't get used and picked up OT. Or it could be a month where he had vacation on days off. If you believe otherwise you are mistaken. A normal line guy would not get it.

I don't currently work there but I did get about 5000 hours in the Saab from them. You still haven't said if you work at either.

Do you work for an airline that has good work rules?

It is not hard to fly only 60 hours and credit 90+, when you factor in soft time. Cancellation pay, Block or Better, DeadHead, Premium Pay (150%-200% Pay for Rolled Days, Holidays, etc.), Trip Rigs, Duty Rigs, etc. All this combined and you will see that pay rates mean squat. The really reason why the more preferred regionals are... preferred, is because they pay way more the SAME payrate.

30hrs of soft time per month seems high

What airline do you work for?

It's high, but not unlikely. What's your highest soft time gap? And what do you usually see? 10-20+?

It will never happen at places that don't have good work rules though.

I flew 148 hours last year and was paid for 975 (guarantee).

The things you point out don't exist at Eagle. So have you worked at either? Still amused.

Eagle doesn't get Premium pay for anything? No 150% pay for rolled days? Nothing?

You were on reserve if you only flew 148 hours and got paid 975. I'm talking about reserves that break guarantee and line holders.

So you assume Eagle pilots would get 85-90 and Colgan line holders wouldn't? You're making assumptions for both companies. Again, have you worked at either?

Are you kidding me?!

You seriously are comparing Eagle's pilot expenses to Colgan's pilot expenses.

It's not private information that Colgan's block hour costs are insanely lower than Eagle's and many other regional pilot groups.
