[quote=OldManReverend;747465]This is what I'm thinking... which is why I'd rather go to Eagle if i ever get the call. Then there's always the option of waiting for some of the other regionals to start opening the door, but that comes with maybe missing the opportunity. ????? decisions, decisions...

An example of this is an Eagle pilot flying 60 hours but getting paid for 90 hours. The Colgan pilot more than likely is paid 60-70 hours at most.
Do you work at Eagle?

Who cares who any of us work for... We all have the same goal, move on to a mjor, legacy, or great corporate job. Usually a regional is stepping stone, we need them just as much as they need us. So as far as me, I would never waste my time not working in a 121 carrier postion just for crappy work rules. Im gonna do whatever I have to do to get where I want. Any of you all who want to be big and macho and refuse to work for Colgan go ahead, in fact give me your exact names so when I am interviewing i can go ahead and scratch you off the list and tell management not to call you. And yes for all you people out there talking about over 50 seats taking away mainline flying, why dont you get on the majors forums and start complaing to those mainline guys and tell them to do something about it. Cause this aint the thread to do on. Every regional out there has takin away mainline flying, except the cessna carriers. And just because an aircraft is over 50 seats means its taking away from mainline? Look at express jet, they operate a erj from IAH to IAD, and they go there multiple times a day. WHO CARES!! Get mad at the mainline management. Get over yourself if your trying to prove a point by not taking a job with a lower reputable company.

Point is that whoever asked what is an average paycheck and that CA (street or not) gave an example, and I was saying that figure corresponds with what I've seen as well with my CAs (non-street). if we were to upgrade right now at 3rd year, our pay wouldn't be that far off from his either. Net difference per paycheck between his and ours wouldn't even be $100.
New guys should not plan on budgeting for anything above 75 hrs because the way the company purposely builds the lines now (60-70hrs for every lineholder) and rarely gives out open time anymore. I know most other airlines have scaled back on block for active employees so as to avoid furlough for a few, in the case of Pinnacle it's far from kindhearted consideration of trying to avoid furlough - obviously we've even hired a class just a few months ago.
They say seniority is supposed to be everything, but it sucks now with Pinnacle's penny pinching mentality how seniority doesn't mean jack when it comes to lines all having same number of credits for everyone and same number of days off (more or less) and being equally commutable or noncommutable. Basically all your seniority is good for is the question of whether you can actually hold a line or reserve, and if you can hold weekends off or not.
oh yeah and someone mentioned at least we get holiday pay. it's not paid above guarantee.
at the end of the day does any of this (as in the last 20 pages of this thread and me *****ing about this and that) matter? ultimately people are going to do whatever they feel like doing. well if they still choose to come here after knowing the tidbits, they deserve it.. so, ENJOY

So to all those hopeful folks, make an informed choice.
But keep in mind a DC-9-10 holds 90 pax as does a CRJ 900.
The only difference is about $60 an hour.

I spent a year at Colgan as a Newark-based F/O on the Q400. My motivation to take the job was to build recency of flight experience, considering that I had plenty of experience but had been instructing in simulators for about 8 years prior. It resulted in a great opportunity to move on to greener pastures in a short period of time.
I would classify it as a good experience overall. I had the opportunity to learn a completely new type of airplane and work with some great people. I would definitely recommend it to anyone looking to advance their career in the airline world. Having worked for other 121 carriers, it's comparable in working conditions, and will improve with ALPA.
When the industry turns around, it will be to any pilot's advantage to have flying currency and not be on the outside if another unexpected opportunity arises. For those of you debating the "my regional's better than yours" tidbits, I would strongly suggest not to be overly selective in this economy. "It is what it is" like any other regional airline job. It's your attitude, work ethic and what you make of it.
I wish I could offer info on the current interview process, but I'm not familiar with it. My only other advice? Don't commute.

2-I'm not judging you in any way, shape or form..WHY? because I felt the same way when I was 24... "this regional is my ticket to a G-V or Global Express, let'em pay me whatever they want, I'm a temp"... then I had one goal "that shinny G-V or maybe a major"....now I'm 35, my attitude has changed, I see things different and have a lot of regret about not caring enough back then...
MOST OF US played that game, but VERY few are willing to admit it....
how can I sit here and give you speech when I did the same 10 years ago?
