10 more people come on and you are #2 out of 20 - you are now the 10%

More people between you and the bottom number.

What you're really talking about is RELATIVE SENIORITY.....and it does improve when the ranks increase below you. This is also true for the ranks w/in a particular base; but that's breaking it down farther than this thread requires.

Always better to have guys above leave for greener pastures....but adding to the herd below is almost as good.

To those looking for advice....mine would be never turn down an airline interview....

Turn down job offers if you don't like what you see/hear AFTER completing the entire process!

This is what I'm thinking... which is why I'd rather go to Eagle if i ever get the call. Then there's always the option of waiting for some of the other regionals to start opening the door, but that comes with maybe missing the opportunity. ????? decisions, decisions...

Just sounds like Colgan is a couple years behind everybody else when it comes to work rules and pay.

And the pilots are working hard to change that. If and when that change ever comes is anyone's guess...... But we are trying.

You could have F. Lorenzo start a regional airline and guarantee only 6 days off, starting pay of $13 an hour, known shady maintenance practices, etc and you would have 14 pages of people bending over backwards trying to apply to them....that is what this industry has become.

And I ask why???

People are taking up issues with the way they treat YOU, the pilots. Stop defending Colgan and start telling people not to go there and why not to. Some of the Colgan pilots are doing that, but I'm amazed that are still some that come on here, all upset, when people talk bad about Colgan's treatment of the pilots.

The best way for the Colgan pilots to get a decent contract is to tell everyone interested in going there to stay FAR FAR away.

I applied to Colgan the day they announced their hiring. I'm currently flying 10-15 hrs a month. I have an non flying job where I'm making 40-50k a yr. Do I want to do it forever? Absolutely not. After reading this thread I cannot believe the conditions Colgan has. Pay for your own hotel? 18,000 a yr? Are you kidding me? When instructing it kills me to loose pay to MTX'd aircraft and that was with making around $40,000 a yr. I can't imagine that on 18,000 a yr. Thanks but no thanks. If there was a good contract I could deal with it. With the non-existent contract there's not a chance in the world. The same goes for Lakes. There's not much movement these days. It won't kill me to wait it out.

It's a good thing you're not going because you will not have made it through the interview at Colgan. You are not what Colgan is looking for. They want the 18 to 25 year old that has a good credit with their parents and would be more than willing to take one for the company. You seem like an independent type that values money and yourself, that's not what lower tier regional airlines in general want. They want a warm body. We all would like to admire you, because by waiting for what fits you, you will be happier in the long run.

Can somebody tell me, does Colgan make us furloughed guys give up our seniority number at our previous carriers?

It's good you made that choice. You'll be much happier waiting for a job that at the very least treats you well and doesn't pay so poorly. Ignore AirWillie below. Some of what he says is correct with their motivation on new pilots, but we all should admire your choice. By not going to Colgan you are making a difference and helping bring change one step closer.

AirWillie went to GoJets if that sheds any light on his character.

You should take a page out of stis202's book and quit from GoJets.

You shouldn't even care. You shouldn't even be thinking of going there. Get a real job if your so worried about losing your number at your other airline. It sounds like you think you'll be recalled, which should also tell you not to go to Colgan.

Do the Colgan pilots a favor and don't go there so they have a better chance at getting a decent contract.
