Default Job Well Done By Crew Of AE4756!

Good job by the American Eagle crew!

Incident: American Eagle AT72 near Dallas on Dec 25th 2009, jammed elevator

This crew demonstrated the importance of following checklists and keeping in touch with their aircraft.

I heard these guys on the radio. It's a good thing DFW was on north flow that night. Ended up being a straight in for them since they were coming from a southerly direction. Good job fellas!

It's 2010, they're still talking about structural cracks. When are they going to throw away those airplanes for the sake of the whole industry? The last thing we need is another regional crash.

My hat goes off to this crew, really top notch flying. This is the exact reason we need well trained and experienced aviators in the cockpit.

Eagle guys, have any of you ever had to do a jammed control surface in the box during training or checkride?

It's disconcerting that the disconnect didn't work...that little red handle is what separates an airliner from a light GA airplane as far as redundancy goes.

Well done. It's a shame the media didn't pick this up...I hate to say it, but when no one dies, it's not news...again, great job to the Eagle crew.

One unique thing about the ATR is that it does NOT have the red handle to disconnect the flight controls. Flight controls are disconnected by the crew pushing or pulling in the same direction to break the connect tube. The word circulating from MTX is that the one of the stops broke and that's what caused the jam and the inability to disconnect the flight controls. It's a good thing they stopped trying to disconnect after two attempts because it was actually aggravating the problem.
