$146,000/yr base pay for 40 hour work week (we work a 4/10 with three days off a week) as a supervisory pilot, flying helicopters and F/W, for an airborne law enforcement unit for a government agency. (But I actually made a lot more than just that base pay because of all the overtime I worked.)
Been with the agency over 32 years, the past 12 with the aviation unit. (The 20 years before that were spent mostly as a street cop and detective.)
Per diem is about $50/day for food, plus whatever you might spend - actual cost - for hotels; but is generally only applicable on the very rare occasions one is away from home overnight. I probably averaged only 3 or 4 RON's per year over the last several years, so the money for that never factored in very much.

Not quite correct, you are exempt from the first 80K but after that uncle Sam wants his money. I will not say how much I made this year so that I don't become the most hated guy on the thread

The 2009 expat tax exclusion is $91,400...You must not be in the U.S more than 35 days during the FY to be eligible for this exclusion.
