What did you make this year??
#51
I'm going home in two days, 4 sectors Monday early (in just a few hours, I'm Zulu plus one), and 4 sectors Tues. Leave Tues night.
I work 56 days on, 28 days off. Salaried at $5500 per month, so easy to figure the annual salary. Per diem is paid in cash at $70 per night. Flights back home and returning to work are paid for. All food / non-alcohol drinks and housing is paid on my 56 days at work. Company has a fleet of vans to shuttle us around.
I stay in a pretty nice hotel, with good food. Not sure how to compare the hotel to a US place.... it's definitely different. Some of the overnight hotels in places like Johannesburg and Dakar are actually quite nice. Overnight in Abuja is a Sheraton... I fill my fat face with a wonderful steak with béarnaise sauce almost every time I'm there, and charge it to the company. A nice glass of Pinot Noir washes it all down.
We're supposed to be moving to a compound. I saw it for the first time tonight, and it's a long way from complete. Maybe another year. But we'll have private suites that we can live in permanently. Not sure if that will be better or not. I guess it depends on how good the food is.
Overall, Lagos is a corrupt, polluted city with horrible traffic.
I hope to upgrade in the coming year, and my salary then will be $8000mo / $96,000yr. One senior CRJ FO and three CRJ CA's just got picked up on the A330, and one of our CRJ CA's is now right seat on the A340. B777's set to arrive in a year. Have B737-300, -700, -700NG, and -800NG. Also, two Dash-8-Q400's.

60k for flying an RJ in Africa, you have to be nuts
50k for flying one in Newark NJ
I don't have the breakdown, I might get it later depending on how lazy I am
I know Tony had some issues with SKW, but are some of you guys that entrenched with aviation that you would go work in Africa to make a living as a pilot?
Jesus............there is life outside of airplanes, and a hell of a lot more money.
No offense but the most depressing aspect of this whole thread is people being jealous of a guy having to fly a CRJ in Africa for a sad 60k a year.................

Grossed 28500
Flew 947.5 if I block everything left for the year.
Had 108 days off this year.
Now with my now defunct side job added in I made 34800.... and a grand total of 46 days off for the year. I went 7 months and only had 4 "real" days off in that period. I am ready for pay to go up and work rules to improve.

There were people flying large-cabin jets like Falcons and Gulfstreams internationally for $15-20k/mo...money is still good, but $10-12k/mo seems to be more today's going rate.
Don't forget that expat flying paid in USD is not taxed if you're away from the states long enough.
Some people have to do what they need to do in order to provide for their families; others don't have anything attaching them here and are happy for a few years' worth of adventure. Even if you wouldn't do it, leave them be...

Hey, I have no desire to be in NYC / New Jersey, although I'd probably work anywhere for the right price.
After you pay taxes on your 50k, and pay for food, rent, etc, I'm going to guess there's not a lot left over. I don't spend any of mine.
