SkyWest Hiring......VLA program suspended

Yeah, but its Skywest Inc who set it up this way. Skywest Inc could just change it if it wanted to. Just another example of how Skywest Inc's insistence on this setup ends up hurting its pilots.
Why only 3? Why wouldn't they at the very least offer preferential interviews to pilots who already works for Skywest Inc before hiring someone who is not an employee?

Off the subject here but since someone mentioned AirTran branded, why is it that Skywest made such a big deal about this "branded" flying when they have already been doing this type of flying before? Hasn't Skywest been doing prorated flying on their aircraft for one of their partners in their own livery? I must be missing something here.

Those EMB-120's in SLC flying Delta have been SKW livery for a long time.

I've seen Skywest branded aircraft flying for 15 years to the present. And I know that those aircraft are flying under some codeshare agreement with Delta. So I don't really know what Skywest made it such a big deal about "branded" flying with AirTran when they have already been doing something similar for years.

Back on topic.
I believe that the first few slots in our new hire class will be offered to UAL Furloughee's, but I don't think there will be any takers. Next will be the poolies; I’d expect the EMB pool to get the call and not the RJ. There are just too many pilots wanting to transition (EMB-RJ for the money) and I believe the company will honor their seniority rights (as they have in the past).
As for ASA pilots, I understand their argument and although I agree, we are two separate airlines and according to what I understand ASA pilots only get Preferential Hiring (vice versa).

Humorous, and I wholeheartedly agree. You don't need two airlines owned by one holding company to have whipsawing, look at the recent XJT vs. AWAC debacle. UAL asked for concessions from AWAC, they refused, the contract went to XJT. Those are basic, indisputable facts, so pretty please spare me the "its more complicated than that" line (it may be, but you understand how it looks), if something similar happened between SKW and ASA, regardless of how complicated it was, we'd never hear the end of it. Thankfully, so far I haven't seen anything like that between the two groups under SkyWest Inc, but the haters will persist regardless of facts

Would like to work for Skywest
I would like to work for Skywest and have applied… Growing up in Vegas, I had good experiences with the airline. In one case they really came through for me and a friend. I had recently completed a total rebuild on my Luscombe and after several local flights decided to go on a long cross-country. A friend of mine and ramper for AWA (I was a mech at the time) came along for the trip. Climbing out of Vegas bound for Cedar city was adequate due to having a climb prop. Unfortunately, the cruise speed was really slow, 85 mph. My ramper buddy was pretty big and I had not flown the ship at full gross up until that day. In addition the oil temp was running pretty close to redline in the desert heat. I decided to put down in St. George and re-evaluate my options. I decided to pull the prop (for re-pitch) and the carburetor to adjust the float level. My intention was to call my brother to pick us up in St. George. Just then, I spied a Skywest Brasilia and got the idea to ask for a jumpseat back to Vegas. I asked the woman at the gate if a couple of America West folks could get a ride back to LAS with our stuff. Our stuff was a tool box, carb and PROP. The flight crew let us on and even let me keep the prop in the cabin rather than the bag pit. I walked down the aisle of the Brasilia with the metal prop over my shoulder much to the amazement of the pax. One even asked if I had removed the prop from the Brasilia. Anyway, I wedged the prop under seats and away we went. I was able to re-pitch the prop, reset the float level and fly the aircraft problem free for the next two years. This is true and it happened on July 17, 1992. Very nice people at Skywest,,, don’t know if I would tell that story at an interview but it did happen.
