ASA Furloughs/Skywest Hiring!?!
#71
I don't know what is going on, but I'm beginning to get the feeling that something is. I talked with a capt who is also in mgmt a few weeks ago. He claimed that the wording in the AirTran contract had wording for up to 130 AC, 200's 700's and 900's. He said AT is wanting to grow the west coast, and that IF we do a good job with the 5 AC we are starting with then there is wording for increased (codeshare) business with AT.
Also talked with an interview Capt. last Thursday who told me matter of factly that Republic is losing their share of the United flying because of conflict of interest and SkyWest is picking up the slack. How many AC does Republic have with United, anyone know? I didn't think they had that many.

To anybody who might apply at Skywest -
I truly hope everybody that wants an interview gets one, and everybody who wants to join the Skywest team gets their chance.
From time to time, many of us, including me, can post some pretty negative stuff about this industry and the particular airline we work for. I will say this, overall in the 5 years I have been here, Skywest has been an excellent place to work. Working Halloween, Thanksgiving, Xmas and New Years, notwithstanding, I really enjoy my job. Low seniority is a real b!@#h. As all you fortunate new hires are about to find out.
Anyway, again for all who are interested, best of luck in the interview process.

my god people... take a freaking breath and calm the heck down... we work for the same freaking company. Since inc. bought ASA they have at times manipulated us against each other. And the statement of no skw pilot going to ASA is not true. I met one guy once that came from skyw, don't remember the guys name though. But at the end of the day I KNOW ASA nor SKYW pilots want to see the other fail. Go read our SEC contracts, if one fails DL can cancel the contract of the other. I chose ASA because SKYW was NOT HIRING at the time and I personally think ASA was a good place to work too. I didn't care if I went to ASA or SKYW, both were good choices to me. I am a furloughed ASA pilot and I hold no ill will to SKYW pilots. Truth is, I don't want to start over at SKYW. There is way too much assuming on this topic right now and we are really going below the belt here. CALM DOWN...
Also if the shoe was on the other foot and SKYW had guys on the St. and ASA was hiring, I totally would back you guys up. We are still in the same family and family comes 1st.

Completely agree with you. We as a pilot group need to set a better example for each other, instead of bickering and fighting over the actions of the few people that are way above our pay grade and way below our IQ do. We are all here to do the job we love!

I don't know, about a month ago a pilot on our company site said he was trying to get another year off on VLA and someone high up in mgnt replied to his request and said "unable" and that we were going to have a great need for pilots in the coming year and that they were looking for AC........ Thats all I got.

Instructor in recurrent ground last week bet a captain $50 that we'd be having regular upgrade classes by the end of 2010. I think something is happening with both certificates.

Well everyone has rumors about something, but you need to look at the reality. Skywest in a matter of 2 or 3 months are going from VLAs and being overstaffed by the hundreds to having to hire and build high credit lines for all pilots.
Why would that be true? ASA still hasn't even talked about recalls.
