ASA Furloughs/Skywest Hiring!?!

Vote no to PBS.
Don't drink the growth myth juice. What growth? Negative-growth over the past two years at ASA - all without PBS, expect more of the same and further reductions in staffing.
That no-furlough clause won't mean much when the company sees the significant cost benefit to reducing the staffing levels down to 3.5 crews per plane. It'll be a five year grieving process, in which more guys will pound the street with no jobs, and no real growth will occur.
Then again, what do I know - I'm just a bitter furloughed ASA pilot right?
The current MEC has been working on this for over a year and a half now, all while saying "No, we'll wait for the FA's to get PBS before we even discuss it. . ." Guess that didn't work out. Now, in an effort to solidify their legacy on the pilot group, the departing MEC members see the perfect opportunity to drop a giant turd on the pilot group - right before they leave office. How nice.

For 5 years we have heard how horrible skywest is and how we are nothing but non-unions scabs. They've insulted us called Jerry every name in the book even after they signed a pretty good contract, now all of a sudden asa pilots want to fly for skywest.

I think you are just a bitter furloughed pilot. The company will not furlough because of PBS. It's in the agreement. Let me guess, the agreement is worthless? Do you really think SKYW INC. management wants to play that game? Do you realize the sh@# storm that would follow after furloughs due to PBS? In 2009 we were awarded 900's and signed a deal with United. I doubt the company wants to ruin these good steps by furloughing against the agreement. This place would shut down in a heartbeat.

Not everyone falls into your mold there - I'd say most of us don't actually.

There has NEVER been a skywest pilot that has gone to ASA. But there have been hundreds of pilots that have gone the other way.

Delta has been reducing its regional feed for quite some time now, we've both been affected and both companies are bartering with United to absorb some of the loss of block hours. The difference being that SKW's Delta flying makes up less than half of our total block hours, while until recently, they were your only source for flying. Delta's reductions hit Inc. all the way around, but SKW was already in with UAL so we were able to get our A/C flying again quicker, albeit in an at-risk capacity.
My point is that when I was shopping for airlines, I saw SKW as a better option that ASA or XJT because they didn't have all their eggs in one basket and I guessed had better potential for growth. A few years down the road I was partly wrong, I believe I'd be higher up on the ASA list than SKW but would be near the bottom of XJT after all the furloughs. We all made our choices and why people went to ASA or SKW is their prerogative. If you're upset about the choice you made to go to any given airline or how long you waited to go (lord knows I fly with plenty of guys who wish they had gone elsewhere) you need only look in the mirror to find the real culprit. I've reconciled with the fact that I would've been a captain if I'd finished school online but at the time I made the choice to wait it out; I still play the what if games but I have to remind myself that at this point there's really nothing I can do about it.

What!? I've never heard anyone say Skywest is horrible. But way to jump to Jerry's defense, so he got us this contract? Please explain that one. If I wanted to fly for SkyWest I would have.
