At AWAC it goes by however you have your permanent bid. There are some rules regarding voluntary downgrades IIRC. But otherwise it is simply how you have your permanent bid set up and what your seniority can hold.

Air Wisconsin has only a handful of people who are senior enough to hold captain who have opted not to do so. And I believe they are continuing to bid right seat for QOL. There's at least one in DCA who is senior to myself but bids right seat and bids Nr. 1. Other than the paycheck, it's a pretty enviable position!

Anyway, there have been a number of re-upgrades over the past few months.

I'm not in the 121 game any more, but that's just laughable, man. I have a lot of friends at Colgan, but there is a STARK difference between the two companies, with roughly $11,000 a year being one of them.

You may argue that upgrade is a consideration, but that's like saying a craps table is "hot."
Sure but I don't think there are any 4 year F/O's at Colgan, not a fair comparison.

Call me crazy, and I don't have any way to back it up, but I'd venture to say that a 4th year FO at AWAC has the potential to earn more, or at least around the same amount as a reserve captain at Colgan. Sure, there would be a discrepancy in the amount of work, but still. (ie. 4th year FO working every day possible and picking up trips on days off.)

I'm a 3rd year FO at AWAC, and have been on reserve all of last year making about 35k without per diem. I have very rarely broken guarantee. The months I did break guarantee, were if I picked anything up on days off, but that was only a couple of times, and it didn't equate to much without the added per diem. I could easily see making over 50k as an FO here if you decide to work that hard and can hold a line.

Roger Cohen thinks you are being properly and fairly paid. I do not. Man, that really sucks.

While I'm not defending the low pay in the industry, for the amount of work I did last year (460 hours logged), it really hasn't been that bad. Yes there still needs to be a lot of improvement, and I would be absolutely miserable if I did not live in base about 20 min from the airport, but for now I do.

True story... I got pretty close. If you play the AWAC game right QOL doesn't have to suffer too much to make money. I could have easily broke 50k if I were not a commuter.

You have a lot of nerve seeing as you just got upgraded to captain AGAIN at AWAC. You need to leave if AWAC is that bad. You would be miserable anywhere, you're a glass half empty kind of guy with everything. Get real. Colgan and AWAC is apples and oranges. If you think colgan has a future, then get out of awac and go there. You could be a Captain on a Q400 in 2 years.

For February's bid period (Jan31-March01), I will have had 14 days off and will credit at least 131 hours. That's over $5200 (without per diem) before taxes.

It's all about playing the game right. Now someone tell me a quality contract doesn't make a difference. I think I will have only flown about 65 hours when it's all said and done.

For you to make $70,000 as a Captain here (once you upgrade again) and say that AWAC is such a horrible place to be is bogus. I would say that AWAC has more of a future than many of our fellow regionals Mesa, Piedmont, PSA, Great Lakes, etc. Depending on what these majors decide to do with Republic we may have more of a future here than you would there too. Nobody can predict the future, but complaining about literally everything is not the best either.
