Union? Hail yes! I've been here 4 years. I enjoy it. It's a good company, but we have seen what will happen without a contract or representation. I think ALPA is the way to go. I have no illusions that they will solve all our problems, but it is a start.

No to a union. Every friend I have at union carriers (express, rah, mesa) hate the union. The friends at non-union carriers I have like not having unions. (Allegiant, Jetblue). It's sad what has happened at Skywest recently, but I don't think a union would solve it. It seems like a grass is greener on the other side deal to me.

How many of your firends who hate the union at their regional we there before there was a union? How many had to work prior to having a CBA? Many pilots at the regionals hate their union because they only see it as 2% less of their check and never had to work at a crap place without a union. You think it is bad with a union, try it without one. I work for Colgan and know how bad it is without a union.

As far as your other friends not wanting a union, well...even the worst major is better than the best regional.

Union YES!!!! I don't know if ALPA or an in-house is the answer, but I do know that TEAMSTERS IS NOT THE ANSWER. Teamsters was my representation at Great Lakes, and they even decertified the IBT. Worthless.

I voted yes last time, and I am extremely happy to be at an ALPA carrier.

Union? Already had one, there is a reason they can't find Hoffa. If you want to find corruption look no further than a union. Not having a union was one of 3 reasons I applied at SkyWest. I would bet a large sum of money that the people at SkyWest who want a union... 1: Have never been at a union airline. 2: HAVE been at a union airline. 3: Are at the bottem of the senority list and want movement NOW!

#1 pretty much contradicts #2... and you're dead wrong on number 3!!!!!

How much do you consider a "large sum of money", because I'll take your bet.

I'll be happy to take cash or a cashiers check.

Not sure folks in general at SkyWest would agree with you now, or at least the last 4 votes for a union suggest otherwise. This, in my opinion, was one of the many faults of the last union drive.

As a guy who was fired from SkyWest quite unceremoniously last summer, pretty much black listing me from descent part 121 hiring for the rest of my life, I gotta say that I liked working for SkW.

And I didn't think ALPA was the answer then, nor do I now. I honestly wish somebody would get a SkyWest Pilot's Union going, and get off the "but we're too tiny" mentality.

Combining lists with ASA could certainly pan out to be awesome in turns of leverage to SkW, Inc, but the reality is, there will be more contentious issues than harmony. What percentage of list integrations went smoothly? Of those, how many of those integrations were voluntary? The odds aren't good.

Then, the even bigger question; how many at ASA would want to give up ALPA to jump to an upstart, unknown union. The point is, forming a union contingent on the idea of ASA, or any future airline SkW will buy (and there will be more XJT, Scenic Air, Sun Aire, and ASA type purchases in the future) is a bad plan.

Form a union, and make it the best damn union in the business. Bar none. Then, if ASA wants to join up, lay the cards out on the table, and let them vote.

So, I think an in-house union is great, but a combined list / union with ASA might even keep Chip up at night (hey, I like and respect him... it's just business).
