There is nothing wrong with pilot pay being exposed in a documentary film, regardless of what you think of the filmmaker.

As far as I'm concerned, more power to him. I wasn't a fan of Bowling for Columbine. However, I loved Roger and Me, Fahrenheit 9-11 and this new one.
I agree that there is nothing wrong with pilot pay being exposed but on the other hand unless there are fundamental changes in the way in which management views its pilot workforce the status qou will remain the same regardless of how many movies or hearings there are.
In order to change one must move forward and unfortunately a comfort zone exists for some which impedes others who do want to move forward.

Default Really?

I try, and try, to not get caught up in the mindless, ravings of my fellow pilots here on APC. It seems whenever I spend more than 10 seconds reading posts here, I slide onto a emotional roller coaster worse than my G/F does once a month. With emotions ranging from amusement, anger, disbelief and yes, sometimes even hope, I kick myself for even selecting the APC "favorite" button on Firefox in the first place. With this topic, I felt the need to make remarks.

1. This is my second career. First was in mainstream Media, and I promise you, ANY publicity for pilots and our plights, is good publicity.
2. Just because M.M. is the mouthpiece of this particular bit of good publicity, doesn't mean the anti-Michael Moore group should automatically dismiss his message and be accusatory towards him and promoting this idea of the "pot calling the kettle black". People should be paid for good work, just like we all need to be, and although we ALL know M.M. is a prime example of a instigator and propagandist, he has his heart in the right place. No one here needs to LIKE M.M., but how can anyone here not support an idea that benefits US??!?!?!?
3. For those of you few pilots who make more than 150k a year at your cushy job at "brown" and the like......who seem to have forgotten the rest of us who work at poverty level wages and spend 10 days or less at home per month, or perhaps you are one of the gifted pilots, with a perfect pilot career, you are an exception, I beg you to spend a few months in my shoes....you might change your tune. or maybe you think that since you paid your dues, everyone else needs to as well. That mentality is what keeps us as a pilot group, from truly UNITING. I.E. just because a father beats his son, doesn't make it right for that son to grow up and beat his children. Lets get over ourselves and our ego's and make some forward progress.
4. PURE capitalism doesn't work. Period. Nor does PURE socialism. In order for the system to work, we have to have a delicate mix of both, in addition to responsible CEO's, dedicated employee's and mutual respect between the two parties. I know.....just let me dream for a moment. But I do call it HOPE.
5. Hmmmm. I know there was more, but I have to go hop in my crash pad bed for a great night sleep.....away from home.....

Bowling for Columbine was actually good. Can't say the same for his other documentaries, Syco was good up untill the very end where he sent his subjects to Cuba for treatment. That movie lost all credibility there..

The shoes I wore for several years prior to my "cushy" job were probably a lot tougher to wear than the ones you have on now. Many of my coworkers chose to leave and take a cut in pay to fly for a regional. And by the way, with the exception of a vacation, I never had even 10 days at home in a month in my prior jobs.

or maybe you think that since you paid your dues, everyone else needs to as well.
What one considers dues is relative. I feel I paid my mine, but I never felt entitled to anything. Do you?

That mentality is what keeps us as a pilot group, from truly UNITING.
You're new at this aren't you? Most pilots cannot agree as to where to go to lunch, let alone on anything else.
