Arrow Why?

These forums have become pointless in my opinion. I started a thread based on something i read somewhere else about wearing a hat on september 11th and this is one of the responses I got.

I have a better idea... lets all buy american flag bumper stickers/magnets and drive around in our cars boasting our "patriotism"!!! Better yet buy them from me.

What a waist of idea and space you took on some server just by writing this... you want to honor someone DO SOMETHING USEFUL. If you're actually lazy enough to think you are "honoring" the perished by merely DOING YOUR JOB in the manner you are supposed to while dressed as required by your employer, then you are dumber then a shoe box. Come on guys lets get real and put those tiny brain cells to better use. Put a dollar in a jar and give it to someone who needs it... how about that as a start?

"l'll wear my hat in the name of your dead husband, arent you happy?? I hope this "honors" you, him, and solves all of Americas problems"

What a silly, thoughtless, arrogant idea...

Far too many great men with better hats then you died in that day. I hope you think twice before trying to "honor" others in similar ways.

An insincere patriot is worst than an honest enemy.

I love my country and I love that I can come on a message board and speak my mind without the threat of being hurt or put on trial for treason or something stupid like that. When I was growing up I looked up to airline pilots because they were professionals and they dressed and acted in that manner. They didnt carry back packs and ipods and they didn't have lighted wheels on their suitcases. They all wore hats as well which is something we don't do as well. So I thought to myself, what can I do besides the stuff I already do to honor those fallen. I can wear my hat that day and going forward from that day so that people might look at me and the rest of my coworkers as being more professional and maybe some kid somewhere looks at me and says "hey I want to be like him". So if you think that what I did was a waste of your time or space on this server, I appologize. I am going to wear my hat on September 11th as MY way of showing respect to those lost. I hope it doesnt ruin your day.

Look, as noble as you seem to think the idea of wearing your hat is; tha vast majority of us consider it about equal with wearing our trousers. It is part of the uniform. Just because the me 1st generation is now in commerical 121 cockpits and considers ipods in their ears, backpacks and lack of a hat to be acceptable doesn't mean it really is.

Your sentiment is in the right place, your choice of symbolism isn't.

Ill be flying in and out of DTW on 9/11, ill bring my hat I see no harm in your idea.

Mod note:

Wearing your hat on 9/11 was merely a suggestion as a way to honor those lost on that tragic day. If you have a hat and would like to wear it, do so. If you don't have a hat, I guess you won't be able to wear it on that day or on any other day.

The forums are a great place to connect with other pilots and people who have an interest in aviation. It's also free, for cripes sake. As long as the Terms of Service are followed, people have great latitude in what they want to post. So, instead of making disparaging, inappropriate, threatening or half-witted comments, why not use this great resource to have intelligent and well thought out discussions and debates about this profession? If you just absolutely, positively have to make stupid remarks, I know some other places that actually welcome them. As long as I can grasp the mouse with my bony hands and still read from my extra large monitor, I will not allow that type of behavior here.
