This post is extremely sad. You guys are supposedly professional airline pilots yet you are working second jobs to pay the bills? Doesn't that kind of defeat the purpose of the word "professional"? They should call you guys amateur pilots since you cannot support yourselves flying. It is really sad that companies pay so little to fly paying passengers, but what is more sad is how many pilots will do it with a smile on their face.

Therein lies the problem, hockeypilot. All of us love to fly so much that over the years there is always one of us that will do it for less than the other guy. Next thing you know, wages are where they are and everyone works a second job to pay the bills. Unfortunately, I don't think we've hit bottom yet either.

Sorry we dont make the big dollars like you. Some of us have families, school loans to pay off or whatever it may be. Whats not professional about working a second job? You might want to look up the definition in the dictionary. As for doing it with a smile on my face, thats what makes me a professional. I dont take out my frustration and disgust over the state of this industry on my passengers or the people I fly with. Thats a true professional, doing your job and not crying about pay and work rules drawing your attention away from your duties at hand, theres a time and place for everything.

Guys working second jobs to meet their responsibilites is anything but sad to me. I agree it's sad that sometimes that's required by all rights it shouldn't be, but lets not the fault the guys doing what their circumstances lead them to do. It certainly doesn't make them less professional. Remind me again what it is you do, or who you fly for.. maybe how long it's been since you were on first year pay.....

Are there any specific companies out there that are very flexible with schedules? I unfortunantly need a second job to help pay for school/bills so I do not have the degree to substitute teach. I have tried ones like target, sears, home depot but have had to luck and only one interview. Any ideas?

That's a tough one. Usually you need a family/friend connection to be able to get the flexible hours you would require. You might try some sort of manual labor job that wouldn't be as picky if you couldn't show up everyday. Another option, though it wouldn't be much cash, is you could become a "Guide" for ChaCha. They pay 10-20 cents a question you answer, but the nice thing is you can "work" all hours of the day, whenever you have time. Sorry, that's the best I can come up with!

You'll have to visit ChaCha - Mobile Search | Text Search | Questions and Answers. At the bottom of the page, you'll see a link for "Careers". When you click on that, you will see "Become a Guide" in the top right portion of the page. They are not currently hiring new guides, but check back frequently, as they very frequently hire. I think "KGB" is a competitor, so you may try them, as well.
In case you're wondering, you merely fill out an on-line application and complete the on-line training program (only takes an hour or two) on how to correctly answer questions, etc. After passing your "final exam", you are good to go.
