Default Bose or no Bose

Do those of you that have the Aviation X headset think it was worth the $1000? I've heard mixed reviews....

Thats alot of money. I have alot of friends that use them as well. When I was purchasing mine, I checked with people who have used them and they recommended just sticking to the H10-13.4 X. Those are excellent for noise reductions. Bose is comfy on the ear, but no use spending all that money. David Clark's products last long as well!

Best money I've ever spent.

They have a 12-month and a 6-month no-interest payment plan - - great for pilots.

They have a 30-day, money-back guarantee - - great for pilots.

I intended to take advantage of the money-back guarantee, and then send them back. The first time I put them on and turned on the magic, I immediately changed my mind.

I highly recommend them.

Same...I used to use a DC (cheap trainer pair) and they were ok but the clamping force on them crushed my grape. My wife being very generous bought me a pair and they are the greatest thing since peanut butter and jelly (in the same jar)

They put almost no pressure on my head while still creating a great seal around my ear

They do not get all sweaty and nasty around my ears with the ear seals

They are very light to the point where you almost dont feel them on your head

The noise attenuation is amazing, you literally do not hear a thing, they can make that late 80's mooney even sound tame

They do not stick out far from the side of your head, which is nice

The payment plan is a great deal, it is something like 89 a month or something for a year, it is reasonable. I do not know you but the average person spends more than that on beer or fast food or (insert your guilty pleasure here)

Just my two cents

Downfall though which i would have liked is an input for either a cell phone or an ipod or something along those lines. I think Lightspeed has that integrated into the battery box thing.

Completely agree with the others. Bought it on the no interest payment plan. Best investment I ever made. If you fly long hours, your body with thank you. Lightweight, doesn't pinch the head, comfortable around the ears when you wear glasses, batteries last about 30 hours. If they made them for kids, I would get my daughter a set.

When a buddy of mine was on active duty, he let me use his bose headsets.
They are great headsets! Light weight. Comfortable. Flexible. Quiet. The only bad part is they cost $1000. Personally, I own a pair of noise cancelling Pilot headsets. They weight a few more ounces. They are as quiet as the Bose. The only real difference is they are $350 instead of $100!!

Personally, it is not worth the money unless you are making lots of money, and have money to spend.

No matter which headsets you choose, I would recommend with all my might that you buy noise cancelling headsets. Those are worth the extra money!!!

Hey TonyC.

Do you find that you have to leave your right ear uncupped to hear the F/O?

Currently on the MD, but still thinking about getting a pair.

Thanks.

I find that Bose is by far the best headset out there. Not only are they comfortable, and have great noise cancelling. But, there customer support is great! The bracket that holds the earpiece on mine broke. I Fed-Exed them overnight(on Monday) and recevied them back on Wednesday! They charged me nothing for parts, labor or shipping and mine are about four years old.

What kind of aircraft are you flying?

Piston/Turboprop = BOSE kicks @ss, I wouldn't wear any other headset.

Jet = BOSE is ok, comfortable but other headsets will cancel out just as much noise if not more (ie DC's). If you want CHEAP comfort and quiet in a jet, use a telex 750 or similar and just plug up your ears with ear plugs. Works great and I've seen used telex 750's on ebay for $50. If you have the $$ to burn though, the BOSE will work fine in a jet. Much better than dropping the money on the ANR Telex series.

I used Bose in the King Air and C421 I was flying...and holy crap...can you say "worlds apart?!" I found I was less fatigued at the end of the day wearing the bose. YES, it is initially an arm and a leg to buy them, but as others have said: "Your body will thank you at the end of a 14 hr day."

Also, just as Fosters was saying, if you are flying jet equipment, try the Telex 850's. They are ANR headsets...and work great. BUT, they don't require batteries...which is a plus.

All in all, whoever said the get em...I agree with
