SkyWest Ends its Midwest Agreement

Online courses are good...don't know if I'd take an entire degree via the internet, but to finish up with they are solid gold. Good luck!
Oh, and I'm with you...the American flying out of STL was fantastic. Enjoyed it tremendously while I was over at Trans States (well it was either that or the typical ORD/IAD bullchips)...

I finished up where I had started, at a traditional in-class setting. But over the course of my Bachelors, I've probably taken almost a dozen courses online.
I looked into UVSC (I think they may be UVU now?), and they're sketchy but do-able (and ridiculously easy from what I hear), and Embry-Riddle's distance-ed, but wasn't ready to commit that kind of $$...

Stay Away from Embry-Riddle!!!!! Biggest waste of my time and money. Glad I only went for 1 semester.... I can not believe the B/S I went through at ERAU... Too much money for the same classes you can take at a community college.
It's like buying a name....nothing you can't learn at another school than you would be able to at ERAU.

I'm sure others will chime in, but there are other schools that give Embry-Riddle a run for it's money. If I remember correctly one such school with a good quality aviation department is Ohio State University.

Hmmm, you must be one of those regionals that got paid in "hams" for their bonus in '08. Well, I didn't get a ham, rather $1,500k. What'd you get? Zilch, gift card, or ham?
My point was, once you get over yourself, is that fact that '08 was a ROUGH year on the airline industry, and RAH paid out nice bonuses, AND DIDN'T HAVE TO!!!! Which equates to: RAH made profits.

I believe Ohio State only takes you up to your comm. multi. I thought it would take you further than that if it was a good aviation program. Not bashing it, just thought for what the university is, it would take you through your instructor certificates to earn your degree.

But I guess Republic is paying 1500k or $1,500,000 and some airlines are giving hams instead of turkeys so maybe I shouldn't consider myself so fortunate...

Ohio State is a great school! I would recomend selecting an aviation program according to how good the schools football team is. Best damn band in the land too. Maybe you'll do some flying while you are there as well.

So, if they pay well, then apply for a job . . . I'm not sure why some people are offended that many government employees are pretty well compensated, especially when there are still jobs posted. At least someone in the aviation industry is making a decent wage; we should be happy for that.

In a letter dated June 8, 2009 from Chip Childs to All SkyWest employees:
"Today SkyWest and Midwest Airlines have mutually decided to end our code-sharing relationship, with an anticipated completion by the end of January 2010. You are all aware of the difficulties facing Midwest over the last 18 months, and we have been closely evaluating our options to ensure our operation remains secure. They have continued to ask for concessions, and while a healthy partner is clearly best for SkyWest, we decided the best option for both airlines was to end our partnership.
To begin the transition, two CRJ200s will be removed from Midwest service this summer to be utilized as spares throughout our system. The remaining 10 aircraft will be removed incrementally from October through January 2010."
In terms of revenue and daily departures, Midwest currently represents just over two percent of SkyWest's total operation.

This is because RAH needs a spot for their parked aircraft from the CAL operation. How many pilot groups do they have to do this to before people see how messed up they are?
Republic Airways Holdings has agreed to loan a further $6 million to Midwest airlines and add 12 37-50-seat jets to flying Republic current conducts on behalf of Midwest.
Prior to the latest loan, Republic has supplied $25 million in loans to Midwest. An original $15 million loan coincided with the two companies reaching a deal for Republic to fly 12 70-seat Embraer E-170s for Midwest.
Last month the agreement was broadened to include two extended range Embraer E-190 aircraft that are scheduled to start service in August and September.
Republic detailed the latest changes to its relationship with Midwest in a filing with US regulators. The 12 smaller jets are scheduled to enter service by January 2010. The company says all the aircraft will be sourced from its existing fleet or through a third party lessor.
