Apply for airline management positions and work your way up the ladder.

Then, when pilot pay negotiations happen, advocate for higher pay...

This Merit you speak of, is it given by the company or a union?
Or perhaps via secret ballot among those who see the pilot's work every day: Captains selecting F/Os for upgrade, and F/Os voting to "recall" bad Captains...

You will all raise hell over this, BUT I think that the cellular telephone needs to remain OFF when you check-in for duty UNLESS the company pays for it. I am just as guilty as the next, but when I was a Captain. To the greastet extent possible I utilized the radio or landline in operations.

Just an FYI, dispatch has nothing to do with what gate a given flight departs from. If you want to complain about it to someone who gives a ****, talk to operations next time you are in CLT, PHL, LGA, etc. Oh wait, before we go any further, you do realize you might not be the only aircraft coming or going at a certain time, right?

If you are really feeling spunky, feel free to call dispatch if you know you are swapping aircraft. The only way I know what gate a flight is on, is to look up each one individually. Generally speaking, I do not have the time or desire to do that all day long. Listen, we don't like you to swap either, it creates delays, which we usually hear about. Maybe we can do something about your a/c swap, maybe we can't. And don't get any conspiracy theories going. If we tell you we cant do something about it, it's not because we don't like you, it's because there is generally a reason a given aircraft is on a certain line.

Seniority system that's strictly based on DOH and nothing else is what's really killing this profession if you can call it that. When you have former 757 international captains sitting right seat to a 3000 hour wonder kid because their airline went under while making pittance of an apprentice salary, really, how is that considered defending the profession?

Let me clarify this is not being inneficient. This is letting the airline run as it should. Without droppin gthe brakes early, and arriving early only to let them schedule shorter turns in the future.

I just cant wait to start raising some hell.My first airline is dead, it gave all its flying to regional aircraft, then swapped out the smaller rj's for aircraft that mainline companies fly. This will be the future of regional flying unless we start some ******* with management everywhere.
