ASA internship??
Hey guys I have about 400 hrs 40 multi and I will be done school in December. By December I should have 600 and 60 but I need to complete an internship after December to get 1 final credit. Should I try for an ASA internship and not fly for 3 months during the internship, or do an internship at my current flight school and build time to 1000 100. Any former ASA interns please tell me what you thought of the program. Were you offered a job after the internship? Anyone else feel free to throw your 2 cents in.

Im going to be a junior and im kinda in the same boat as you. I've looked into the ASA internship and it seems like a good experience and a smart move to make. My friend flies for them and highly suggest doing it, but i still have 2 years left and can keep building time before i graduate. But in your case id say go for the 1000 mark. Just my 2 cents.
Best of luck with it.

The only possible exception would be if a particular regional is your dream job because they have a base in your hometown or something...an internship might take some of he randomness out of the hiring process.

I was at the DB campus from 01'-04'. Get your butt in the door at a major airline doing an internship. These days the only people getting the good jobs are the ones who know somebody. And to know all the right somebody's at a major usually helps when the time comes. I did an internship at CAL and at the time they had people out on furghlough. Now they are hiring like crazy and I'm just about at the mins. Now I can walk my own resume into the CP's office. Go and see John Merwin at the career office, he can give you all the info about the CAL intern. (And dont just apply for the summer, b/c that's when its the most competitive.)
Feel free to PM me if you have any questions.

Isn't ironic to get career advice from a Mesa pilot.

RickAir and BeaglePilot are right on here. You really ought to do an internship at CAL if you can get it. CAL is pretty much taking people that are internally recommended and have past ties (ie, internship). ASA internships are okay if that is the only option, but I would take the CAL deal first and foremost.

I had a friend that did an internship at ASA and during it went through the CRJ ground school and passed everything with flying colors. He then interviewed with them and even though everything went fine they still didn't hire him.
Gave 6 months free to those Bstrds and still they stiffed him.

And believe me, seeing things from a Mesa point of view gives you an EXCELLENT career perspective
So BTW, who are you and why do you think you are such big sh*t anyway? I assume you must work for Quantas, FEDEX, or maybe NASA right? Cuz any regional pilot who REALLY believes that he's any better than any other regional pilot must have some serious delusions of adequacy...
