Mod Note:
I have stickied this thread for now. In addition to participating in the poll, I am curious as to what you are doing 6 months out and a year out if you have not found another flying job. Have you changed careers altogether? Unemployment lasts 6 months with the Federal extension adding probably another 6 months. There comes a time when you have to do something, anything. How many of you have a working spouse?
As I have said to many of you before, your APC family is here to provide support should you need it. The personal promises of help I made are still good.

Been trying to go back to instructing locally. Best I've gotten so far was, "maybe in a few more months we'll need instructors."
In the mean time I'm taking the AT-SAT, to be a controller, this month. But, best case scenario I won't actually start training for about a year, if I do get hired by the FAA.

I am slaving away as a Computer Course Designer for a small aircraft dispatcher school... basically I am creating online courses for their LMS program so students can study most of the course via CBT at home. It is paying the bills... barely. Can't wait to get back into the air.

Was furloughed while in training April of '08, and went back to instructing in the PA-44 and a little bit of C-172 G-1000 instructing. The company went on to furlough nearly 200 more pilots who are all still waiting to hear ANY good news. I guess we all just make the best of a bad situation and keep trudging along.

I am on month 7 of being furloughed. Still unemployed and on the bennies until June. Cant find a job ANYWHERE in ANY occupation, I have applied for secretary work and been turned down. I have looked extensively in my degree field (Psychology) with no luck. I am trying to avoid fast food but it just might come to that...
What I am finding overall is 1) I dont have enough/recent enough experience for position A because I have been flying for so long or 2) Wow, you were an airline pilot, you're way over qualified for this place (I even got that one at a flight school for a CFI job). So I get turned away from jobs for one of those two reasons.

furloughed 8/31/08. Still furloughed. Working an office job doing accounts payable, pricing, and invoicing. Make more money, but am ready to get back into the air. I do, however, have three military pilot interviews this month and waiting to hear on a fourth....so, silver lining baby!
