PSA Recalls

PSA RECALLS... Piedmont is furloughing 20 and downgrading about 10 pilots this month and cutting 11 Dash 8s by the years end with 7 times more furloughs and downgrades to come! With Mainline US Airways pilot's grievance concerning the size of US Express fleet and the fact that Piedmont's 11 Dash8 leases are up... it is most convenient for mainline to cut the inexpensive 11 Dash 8s and operate the more expensive CRJ on short flights such as CLT to AVL or FLO for example. In the long run however it is not even close to economical. Since US Air can't reduce the fleets of it's contract carriers such as Mesa, Air Wisconsin, Republic, Colgan, and so on (which is what mainline pilots wanted in their grievance in the first place) they are simply putting a band-aid on the situation by reducing A/C in the fleet who's leases are coming up immediately. (Piedmont Dash8s) However I am sure US Air Management wishes it were the 35 PSA CRJ 200s that were being cut instead.
Don't expect to see an increase in US Air's profitability, on-time performance, and flight completions. It just won't happen. Sadly the recalls of PSA pilots has nothing to do with an economy turning around. PSA has three groups to thank for their recalls... Furloughed and Downgraded Piedmont Pilots, Mainline Pilots Grievance Committee, and Blind US Airways Management. Why does US Airways make no attempt to renegotiate contracts with contract carriers before cutting it's own workforce?

That's enough whining. You don't even have a clue. The Dashes are not even a part of the USAPA grievance. Whether they stay or go has no effect on that issue.
I am sorry that Piedmont is furloughing. But you have the facts all wrong. Dashes are all old and won't be lasting much longer. I am sure they will be getting replacements for them soon. They are probably just preparing for that.

I think a lot of PDT guys are happy to see PSA recalling - you've had guys on furlough for a lot longer than we have. Its not ideal for us to lose planes, but if thats whats gonna happen I think a lot of us would rather see our flying go to our sister wholly pwned PSA than anyone else.
One more thing;
The statement "Dashes are all old and won't be lasting much longer"
is partially incorrect. Some of them are incredibly old, some aren't. Our 50 seaters for example have all been leased out until 2014-2015.

Totally right Phuz.
We all need to stand together during these contract negotiations. Our MEC's are putting their minds together for us all to achieve better quality of life that is long overdue. It is crucial for PSA and Piedmont pilots to stand together as one for this tough battle. Our solidarity will be our success.
Also, love your avatar. What is wrong with that dang catering truck anyway?

I am going to assume the above poster had no clue we lost 79 guys back last fall/spring. In addition we had 39 downgrades as well. He must have also forgot that PDT ran fat while PSA ran lean all winter long. This is not the place for it. We at PSA were cheering for PDT to hire this winter when that rumor got started. We at PSA wanted you to bring more pilots on. Never once have I heard a PSA pilot say anything negative about PDT or wish illwill. If PSA had to park more planes and put even more guys on the street, would that make the PDT situation any more?
At the days end, it sucks you guys are furloughing. However right now it has to do with a loss of 4 planes. Due to leases being cut and a easy way to save cost. Says its wrong or right, take it up with the people in Tempe. At the days end, its not the guys working for PSA who are being recalled to whom you keep to cast the blame.
I wish you at PDT nothing but the best. I have many friends there. However lets stand together, not apart on the issues that face us.
