Agreed! The people are great, the flying is good, the company makes money, and haven't furloughed ever (except for a few months after 9/11). Captains are getting hired to majors. As stated above, except for a few very senior check airman and a couple of guys who have military pensions, it's not a career destination. But for a fast upgrade and great experience, it's a good place to spend a couple of years.

Well I was at the air conference last month in Miami just to see what was going on and Colgan was there. They have been to a lot of hiring conferences and usually only hire a handful. Like said on this forum many times by guys who interviewed with them recently, 20 people come and only 5 get hired. On the flip side, I did hear that there will be a lot of upgrades in July so you never know. Glad to here from other Colganites though!

What is the daily schedule like?
Are you in a hotel room alone during training?

You will share a hotel room. A good idea. It gives you a study partner. DO NOT use off-the-street study programs!!! Study the material given to you and ONLY that material. The instructors will tell you those students that have problems typically study off-the-street "guides". The problems are these guides are too generic. We'll tell you what WE WANT YOU TO KNOW. Don't worry - you'll pass. There were two potential captains in my upgrade class of six that got off by themselves and studied using only an "off-the-street" guide. They thought they were smart. They failed ground school. The Director of Training gave them one day to study our materials and then put them through a tough three hour oral. They passed...barely. Both had trouble in the sim. Both made it through...but only just. Do yourself a favor...only study what the airline gives you. Cooperate and graduate!

Just bustn' your balls, Eagle does the same thing (until you get to the sims). Both are just being cheap. But at least they pay for the hotels unlike Mesa!

When I upgraded to captain, well, that was a long three weeks. One week of ground, followed immediately by ten days of sim (one day off), followed immediately by four days of IOE, followed by a travel day to do my fed ride, followed by a day off, and then a ferry flight for the company from MNZ to IAH. I didn't see my wife during that time at all. But it was one hell of a reunion! The per diem check was huge (by our standards).
(And don't you mean KHEF to KIAH?)
