Default ATC: The other side of Cactus 1549

This thread may get moved to another area of the Forum, but I thought it was important to point out what was happening to Air Traffic Controllers during the US Air Incident in NY.

Sometimes we forget that we are all a part of a large team.....Flight Crews and Air Traffic Controllers.....We are all human. Nice job Mr. Harten!

"I was in no position to continue to work air traffic. It was the lowest low I had ever felt. I wanted to talk to my wife. But I knew if I tried to speak or even heard her voice, I would fall apart completely." Patrick Harten, KLGA ATC

Mr. Harten did an outstanding job. I remember hearing the tapes the first time and being amazed at what a great job he did - calm, cool, and collected - just what I hope for eveytime from a controller when I have a problem. I felt that he was beating himself up a little in the article/in the hearings. For instance that last line of the article when he says that he had to get his self-confidence back. Mr Harten......you didn't do anything wrong. You did an excellent job! BRAVO ZULU!

Hey guys. I just have one question, why did the crew and everybody involved in this accident go to the congressional hearing. Did they have to or did they want to? I don't get it. can someone answer this for me. Thanks.

I think they were invited. They did not have to go, it was more of a congressional "we want to talk to the hero" hearing. Fortunately Sully used the time to give them some true facts about the lives of airline pilots of today...
