Not saying its good, just making an observation
No, they do not. Southwest requires new hires to have a 737 type. How you obtain it is your business (former employer, military, etc.). They don't require anybody to pay for training at Southwest. BIG difference compared to the Gulfstream scam for suckers.

There is something to be said for pilots who never learn how to fly an airplane properly. I learned more about flying while I was instructing than I did my first year at a 121 airline, teaching is the best way to learn IMO.
I think we all should focus on discussing the pitfalls of pay-to-work outfits, including the cleverly designed so called "internships." We should not speculate what might or might not have happened in different airline accidents because frankly that's what NTSB is for... Besides, since those crews aren't here to defend themselves it's a dishonorable thing to do; we are all pilots no matter how we got there.

I disagree with Turboprop's contention that Gulfstream offers "internships" as I view those as pay-to-work arrangements. Having said that, God forbid if something was ever to happen to him/her or any other Gulfstream-trained pilot I'd never dare to discuss his/her qualifications, errors, etc. I'd leave that to the NTSB. I'm sure he/she would do the same for me...

Let's not stoop down to the level of disgusting news media rats...

This has got to be by far one of the BEST threads I've ever read. I applaude everyone's professionalism in taking a stand in what they believe as far as the PFT debate.

I've gained greater insight into both sides now.

Yeah I didnt mean to correlate the Colgan crew skill level with GIA, I meant in General, not 3407 specific

I did too... We should NEVER question a pilot's credentials when he/she cannot defend himself or herself... Just my take on it...

I don't think you understand what we're saying... You have in fact been subsidizing your own salary... First you paid them to let you fly for them and then the management graciously paid you a salary... Isn't it ironic, don't you think?
