My intention, and I'm sure deadsticks as well, was not to argue the semantics of the metaphors, which are not a pefectly even comparison... rather to point out that once professionals in other fields pay for their training, they expect to be compensated.
I did an internship when I was in college, and I didn't give them a single dime.

Anybody remember the early 90's and what hiring was like back then? If so, the direction this industry is going could see the return of PFT if programs like GTA/GIA's is allowed to succeed. Why? Several contracts are coming due and the management groups are watching.
For instance, does anybody want to guess what will happen at Delta or AirTran the next time around if the Midwest pilots accept the proposed pay rates?

So I assume it safe to say that we all agree PFT is the best route for new pilots

Its not even "Pay for Training", its PAYING FOR A JOB, its pathetic, its detrimental to our profession and its disgraceful. It is also common knowledge that the majority of GIA pilots are not very good sticks....................mainly because they never gave themselves the opportunity to learn from their mistakes, or scare themselves enough to pay attention.
Every time I see that CONTINENTAL SCAB CA pushing this garbage (on their website) program I want to vomit, with both his sons standing so proudly by their SCAB father..........its disgraceful............
I don't think its a coincidence that Comair and Pinnacle's most recent crash involved GIA pilots. When you don't earn something you don't have respect for it..........

Is there really a big difference between paying to fly a B1900 or getting paid a whopping 25k a year to fly a 50 seat RJ? Dont spend it all in one place.
My point is, its not JUST the brainchilds who pay to work at an airline that are lowering the bar and responsible for the demise of aviation as a career...

You want to know how sad there program is? We had a female Gulfstream CA (Jumpseater) tell us myself and and a 10yr CA) at FL180 that the local altimeter setting was blah blah blah......She thought she was helping us, she didn't know enough to know that its when passing BELOW FL180 you set the altimeter, it was pathetic........ I guess thats what happens when you do FLL-MYNN you whole career
I don't care if you like what I have to say, GIA is a scam and it BREEDS incompetent pilots, its not up for debate, its a FACT, and recent history has proved it.............
tired of this BS..............

Yes... there is a HUGE difference. One is a job, the other is very expensive playtime, pretending that you are equal to the pilots who have worked hard for their FO jobs.
