Agreed, totally, people keep this in mind, I just saw an interview with the husband of one of the victims saying that he is considering a class action against the airlines, and pilots for flying in conditions this accident has proven the plane should have never been in. This is scary, Some shark lawyer is already convinced a distraught person that
1) icing was the cause
2) airlines should never fly in winter weather
3) the airline was negligant by flying in the weather that day,

all of this before the investigation is 4 days old, they havnt even identified everyone of the victims yet

does anyone see the dangerous pattern emerging here, be very wary of the media and unknown people here, their speculations can cause a lot of heartache for the professional pilots that serve our customers to the best of our abilities..

I typed flight 3407 crash into google yesterday to find some articles, and the first 20 websites on the list were law firms advertising to make the victims families their clients.

The lawyers can convince people whatever they want. The families are in horrible grief and will eventually want someone to blame and pay, it is a common reaction.

There will surely be lawsuits filed against various people and companies by the families. I do not feel that "speculation" that runs wild in the media will have as much strength in a courtroom.

I am not worried that the notion of "airlines should never fly in winter wether" being an issue. If this was the case, we could close up the northeast for 5 months a year

They may be ready to sue Continental for flying in icing today, but tomorrow they'll be threatening litigation when their aircraft is delayed or cancelled due to weather!

Not sure if this has already been stated but the NTSB keeps talking about how the autopilot was on during icing conditions. One guy was saying the plane should been hand flown so the pilots can get a feel for how the plane is acting. However, if the pilot was hand flying you know that the good ole NTSB would say the pilots should use autopilot in icing conditions. I just hate how every which way the pilots can be blamed they are.

god speed to crew and px

Read Page 1, Post 1 of this thread. The NTSB said flying with autopilot was not the wrong thing to do. Please do not get confused what the NTSB says and what CNN says the NTSB said

I suspect tail stall due to icing, (pure speculation on my part) I practiced that one in the sim and had no idea what happened except for the red screen.

I'm all for free press and all that...but I now honestly believe the advent of the 24 hour news network has worsened our economy, our politics, and our society's understanding of major events in general. Anything bad gets worse because of the media, and anything really good doesn't get talked about anyways...

There was once a time when investigative, responsible journalism made the world a better place by catching people who were up to no good. That was back when news wasn't entertainment, it was serious stuff. You go find the facts, and then you read the facts, and let people decide for themselves what they think it means. No spin...no opinions...just the facts. Which was of course more boring, but news should be boring and they should leave you to interpret things for yourself.

Now, news has blended together with entertainment, and all reporters do is sensationalize events, even it means blurring the facts to make things seem more controversial or entertaining. It's like CSI meets opinion column.
