For some reason that is what really hits home on this trip.
I couldn't imagine looking up at that globe right now ... I think i'd lose it. Cheers to you for being able to carry on. Those images will be stuck in all of our minds for a long time.

I second that statement.

Maybe doing our job is the best way to remember all of them. Much as we sometimes hate it, life does go on.

Kiss the kids, hug the spouse, and tell the parents you miss them. Then keep moving on.
Well said. I called my parents and girlfriend last night before I went to bed just to say i love you.

eaglefly,
I appreciate what you are saying. However, why don't we wait and see what the NTSB actually states in its final conclusion on what happened. Before we can learn from THIS accident, we have to see what happened in THIS accident.
Kinda reminded me of the YOUNG gentleman I met the other day at the Med Offices in EWR. Commutair pilot, and we started talking. I was trying to see if they were hiring, so I can sit at home on resserve, and make a FEW bucks.
I asked if there were ANY AD's on the DASH (I know it's a different series).
He siad there ARE NONE! Is this true , NO ADs, AT ALL?
Then he proceeded to talk to one of the other "patients" about the accident, and how it was no WAY due to icing. I asked if he saw any similarities between this and the ATR or the Brasilia crashes. He had no idea what I was talking about.
So let's see what hapened, then we can LEARN from this, and not state how young, inexperienced, their first winter ops, etc...

I can see where you are both coming from here. But yes, I do believe that ANYTHING at this point is PURE speculation since no one (except maybe the guys actually reviewing the tapes right now) knows what happened on that aircraft.

What I can say is that both pilots on that aircraft (all 3 actually) were some DAMN fine pilots and very bright.

Hopefully in the next few days we will all receive more information as to what caused the ultimate end of all on flight 3407.

In honor, CJC3407

Default NTSB press conference at 1600EST

I've just seen a post over on PPRuNe stating that the NTSB is holding a press conference at 1600 EST today, Sunday the 15th, regarding this accident. Tried to confirm it through other ways but unable to. Looks official though, not sure why anyone would post false info on something like that either.
Perhaps it will be on some of the cable news outlets?

Default NTSB already blaming the crew?

Perhaps the NTSB ought to complete the investigation first?

CLARENCE, N.Y. - The plane that crashed into a house near Buffalo, killing 50 people, was on autopilot when it went down, a violation of airline policy, a federal aviation official said Sunday.

Steve Chealander of the National Transportation Safety Board said Colgan Air recommends pilots fly manually in icy conditions. Pilots are required to do so in severe ice.

The pilot of the doomed plane reported "significant" ice on his wings and windshield just before crashing Thursday night.

Colgan Air operates a fleet of 51 regional turboprops including Continental Connection, United Express and US Airways Express.

Chealander says the preliminary investigation indicates the autopilot was still on when the plane crashed. The remains of 15 people have been recovered from the wreckage of Flight 3407, authorities said Sunday as crews raced to finish their work before a snowstorm arrives later in the week.

I just heard that myself ... I just about walked across the room to break my tv ... there is NO WAY the autopilot was on when they went down. We are ALL trained to kick off the autopilot and hand fly it if something goes wrong. This would no no exception. Until the NTSB says with 100% certainty that the autopilot was on when the plane hit the ground I REFUSE to believe it.

Well thank God CNN actually retracted an inaccurate statement. Just heard them say that their statement before about the autopilot being on was incorrect and the NTSB stands by its previous press conference information.

It's also not a violation of airline policy. It is RECOMMENDED, not REQUIRED. Big difference.
