Apply with Ameriflight. Once you send in your resume wait a couple of days and call them. Thats how 3 of my friends got an interview. You'd probably have a better shot there.

If I could find a job, any job, that pays an equal wage that I make at Lakes, I would bail in a second. Lakes gets worser and worser every day. Horrible schedules, airplanes that are falling apart, and now this crap about FMN. It just doesn't make any sense. Why not reopen PHX and have a domicile that people would actually want to be in? Its because management views pilots as less than dirt and they don't give a crap about you or your family.

I wish the Feds would just finally shut this place down.
Wow. Best endorsement ever. That's the problem, when the market is tough, people are going to be stuck at places they don't want to be at. I wonder how many of the current new hires at Lakes/GJ/Lynx really want to be there.

The Beechs do have lots and lots of time. I can't remember what the average airframe time is, but I thought it was between 20-30 thousand hours. I really don't understand the whole FMN situation, either. The only thing I can think is that there is some sort of link between the FMN crew base, and being a new MX base. I think most upper management, no matter which airline it is, views pilots as obstacles to increased profits. It is definitely more profitable to undercut the employees as much as they can. This is where a strong, united pilot group comes in, and also having a union that doesn't sit on it's butt. I think we're on our way to those two things, but until that happens, it seems like things are going to get worse before they get better. I've enjoyed my time at Lakes. I'm still bright-eyed and bushy tailed, though, because Lakes was my first airline job; I've never seen the land of milk and honey with the majors, and been furloughed from that. I never thought this place was all that bad, compared to the nightmares that some of my Part 135 light cargo buddies told me about. I had a buddy who flew for a Denver-based cargo/charter op who got 24 off in 7 for months at a time, and only flew 60 hours per month; almost every second he wasn't flying, he would sit ready-reserve at the airport. He also loaded his own planes, and the plane was of equal size to the 1900D. It was even his company's policy that he deice the aircraft as much as he could, before the subcontract deice people would spray the plane. He would be out there with a broom and car ice scraper, scraping away at the plane, so his company could save $5 worth of deicing fluid. Our contract isn't good, but it protects us from stuff like that, and flying the FAA min days off, max duty times, etc. There is much, much room for improvement, though.

I am curious what all the returning captains that are at the bottom of the seniority list feel about getting sent to FMN? We definately need a better contract. I am guessing there won't be a crew room in FMN or will it be like STL where there is a couch in ops.

Just finished, holy crap that was a long app. Adding up night XC hours was a pain. I guess the application itself weeds out the lazy. I'll call them in a few days and maybe I'll have the same luck as your 3 amigos

Wait til you get the next application if they decide they want to interview you. I got this whole packet of stuff I'm supposed to fill out and get.

Lakes commuter clause: Don't quote me on this, because I've never thought of using it, but I believe your butt is covered if you are listed on 2 Lakes flights that arrive prior to your show time. It only applies to Great Lakes Airlines flights. It helps very, very few of our pilots, though, as almost none of our pilots live at our outstations. It may actually help, somewhat, a little, maybe, probably not, with this whole FMN deal.

I'll live in some random city for a little while. As long as it IS a little while and not more than say one year. I've got no wife, children, house, etc to tie me down. I just want a stable job for a few years while the rest of the industry rebounds. Sounds like lakes, despite the poor pay/work rules, will at least be in business for the foreseeable future with more movement within than most places. What more can you ask for right now?
