I have a question for those that work at Great Lakes. I was offered a class date back in June of 2008 and turned it down to take a class at Comair. Turns out I made the wrong decision, cause the comair class got cancelled followed by 300 furloughs. Since then I have regretted my decision to turn down lakes. I know they are not the best company in the world but I would be well on my way to captain now if I had taken the class and make it through training. My question is this; if I email/call them and ask if I could get a class date back would I get laughed at? I don't know how these things work but the more I think about it the more I kick myself for that decision. Is there any way I could re-interview or reapply or am I just S.O.L. Any comments/bashing welcome, but please only if you work there or have had an experience such as this at another company.

It doesn't hurt to try. I won't sleep over it, it's not the end of the world to be turned down by a company like Great Lakes anyways.

AirWillie, I agree. The only thing I am losing sleep over is being turned down by so many companies in the past 6 months or so. I think I will give it a shot. Anyone out there know an email or phone number that would work? It's been so long since I talked to them, just want to make sure I'm contacting the right person.

I don't entirely disagree with this, but didn't want to be quite as blunt...being that I'm an obvious Laker, and didn't want to publicly bash a city we service on a public forum. Word gets around in the small towns we service. That's my little paranoid ethics deal, I guess...

As far as upgrades are going, there are many furloughed 121 RJ guys waiting for their chance to upgrade, but it is taking them over 9 months to get just 300 in type.

Unless we get more airplanes, and soon, upgrades are going to grind to a hault without warning just like it did back in 2006.

Save your sanity and continue serving drinks. By the way, is your company hiring?
Not to highjack, but real quick, I am just shy of doing this, but I know a lot are competative, so Lynx, div of frontier in denver is hiring for the q400, theyve posted twice in feb. just passing on info. I have a buddy that is in training at lakes, and he seems pretty excited to at least stay flying, so from what I know, it is what it is, but its a job flying...IMO

Thought I'd pass this along, as I'm sure it will sway the decisions of many, as to whether or not they will throw in a resume' at Lakes. I have no major complaints about Lakes, but Farmington?!?!? The flying in Phoenix and Cali wouldn't be too bad, as far as weather is concerned. That's one tiny upside to it, I guess... The FO list is currently moving, but the movement will slow, should upgrades slow, or come to a halt. There will always be attrition on the FO side, as there always has been, but if upgrades slow, escape from FMN may take awhile. I guess I exaggerate. Farmington isn't a terrible place to be. The commuting part would be a headache, though. We do have a commuter clause for Lakes flights only, if that's any consolation...not really...

A flying job in a market where no one else is hiring. And when real jobs do start hiring again, the industry is going to be so incredibly competitive that its not going to matter how much PIC time you have. If you don't have really good contacts somewhere, you'd better be comfortable where you are.

If I could find a job, any job, that pays an equal wage that I make at Lakes, I would bail in a second. Lakes gets worser and worser every day. Horrible schedules, airplanes that are falling apart, and now this crap about FMN. It just doesn't make any sense. Why not reopen PHX and have a domicile that people would actually want to be in? Its because management views pilots as less than dirt and they don't give a crap about you or your family.

I wish the Feds would just finally shut this place down.

I got an email back from my HR contact at lakes, he said he would send my info to the chief pilot for reconsideration. Does anyone think the CP will give me a second chance after I turned down a class last year?
