I love poking fun at GLA....

I've been called twice to interview, and both times they cancel before I even get there due to hiring freezes. Do they actually hire people?

I don't think he's saying he's some sort of super captain. If you're flying 121, you should not be consistently flying the airplane outside of established tolerances. It's unsafe. Occasional, correctable mistakes are understandable (and is even aligned with the spirit of the ATP PTS). Even the best captains and FOs fall within this range. A consistent pattern of errors and mistakes, especially those which demand that the other pilot immediately takes control of the aircraft to prevent a serious incident or accident, are totally inexcusable and unacceptable. I never fell within this range, even as the most green FO. But, some people do, and should not be flying 121; period. Some slip through the cracks, though. I reckon it happens at most airlines. We just don't have the benefit of having an autopilot to make up for the lack of competence....

Very true. So how do these people keep their jobs?(Not just GLA but anywhere)
I think I know the answer, but would like to hear what other people think. Any takers?

With GLA, they usually keep their jobs until yearly recurrent, unless there are a ton of complaints about that FO before that point. We've had a lot of FOs dequal or get fired over the last few years, because of their performance during yearly recurrent. It even got to the point where we started 6 month sim sessions for FOs. They can sometimes slip through the cracks once (initial), but usually not twice (recurrent).

Goodness! A little defensive aren't we? If you spent any time in the left seat you should know exactly what he means

I spent plenty of time in the left seat, and I still don't get what he means. I suppose I do in a sense, but the bottom line is, we all started somewhere.
