Seriously, I don't get it. I turned them down out of disgust. I'm not asking for 6 figures, paid vacation, or a great benefits plan, but how about enough to pay the bills? How can you afford to go to training with no PAY? Seriously, somebody please tell me, what is your avg. paycheck AFTER you get out of training?? If i could balance it out, I would love to go there.

Here's my expenses-
-Car
-Insurance
-Cell phone
-Housing
-Utilities
-Gas
-Food

FYI its not the only Company that dont pay in Training LYNX dont pay either no one is forcing you to take a job at XYZ company if you make the Decision to go to Lakes or any other place just know what you are getting into. I am tired of people with the READY FIRE AIM mentality

Well everyone who has applied to GLA, Lynx, Mesa or whoever know exactly what they/we are getting into. I can only speak for myself, but I feel GLA is stable right now and that's what I am looking for. I know the pay isnt great and there isnt pay during training.
Honestly, I don't need a lecture about what I am getting myself into. I'm not a "new kid on the block" I've flown 121 and 135 for over 5yrs now by no means am I senior either. GLA offers the best chance to keep flying while times are tough.
If someone's not bashing Mesa they are bashing GLA or Lynx. If GLA or Mesa or Lynx isnt for you dont apply its as simple as that.
MHO I'd rather fly and keep current as opposed to mutter the words "Welcome to Wal Mart" or "Welcome to Mcdonalds". And yes I do know they make more $$. Sometimes you have to take two steps back to take 3 steps forward.

I fully agree with Luv here! If I had not been rejected from GLA, I would've signed on in a heartbeat! You have to know what you're getting yourself into before you do the interview. I'd much rather have currency and active flying than no flying job at all. Heck, even the instructing jobs are extremely competitive and hard to come by these days too. I'm presently working at a farm in Iowa when I got laid off from my flight instructing job in Florida. I've interviewed with several schools and the competition is up there for even those jobs. Right now and with things the way they are, I'm glad to have a job at all than on the street collecting unemployment....

From the news articles I read, GLA turned down operations at cities they had been awarded contracts for but had yet to start service.

I agree with you, man. Great Lakes is definitely not the place for me. People forget they still have to pay taxes. I have no idea how people do it there, even if it's for the "quick upgrade." I'm not judging anyone, but just don't get it...
I've always thought, if you need to feed a family, why would you downgrade in pay if you got furloughed from another company. There are so many more non-aviation jobs that pay better out there to weather the furloughs.

I see you're point but if you dont have a family to feed it makes sense. Besides I lived off Top Ramen in college. Looks like I'll be doing it again.
