Great Lakes Airlines Hiring???
#101
Question for any senior Lakes pilots about your history? I just saw a video on the Convair 580 and some of the scenes had some 580s with a Great Lakes livery on them. I was just curious if those were aircraft that the GLA of today operated back in the 70s or 80s or a defunct airline? Thanks.

I believe they are from a defunct airline. We started out in Iowa with some barons and a bonanza or two as an FBO. Then we got a couple beech 99's, then 1900c's then 1900D's, and finally the brasilia around 93 or 95 (wasn't here that long ago).

Thanks. I was just curious when I saw that and didn't know if GLA operated them in the past.

The Great Lakes convairs were operated by a
Candian outfit known as Great Lakes Airlines. The current Great Lakes originated in northwest Iowa, where Lake Okoboji and Spirit Lake are known as "the Great Lakes."

I have read some recent interview gouge and saw that recently they havent been giving sim rides... but I have heard that they are going back to doing so. So whats the deal??? Yay or nay? If so.. does anyone know the profile?

If they do give sim rides good. If not even better... You should go into an interview prepared for anything. I personally hope they do give sim rides because you'll be competing with 121/135 pilots on the street. I would rather take someone who's up to snuff and the way to find out is in the sim.
If you want a sim profile: I'm sure you'll have an engine out, a hold, ILS to mins, missed maybe even an NDB approach since they do shoot'em. All of these are standard 121 sim rides (except maybe the NDB).
In my own opinion Great Lakes should have one of the toughest interviews right now because they are the only regional hiring. I'm sure they have thousands of resume's on file so why not take the cream of the crop.

6 emb-120's. 30 b-1900d's. Still adding beeches as we can get them. It seems like they have a "project" beech coming out of moth balls in the hanger in CYS everytime I'm up there. Only attrition on the EMB side are FO's transitioning to Beech CA so best bet would be a Beech spot for new hires.

yeah, I was wondering where you were getting all the beeches, their not exactly easy to come by. Im in a position to get to a 135 outfit with 120's eventually, thought It might be worth coming over there to see if I could work my way into the airframe to get some experience on it. So if an FO upgrades to Be-1900 Capt, do they allow bidding for the empty seat on the EMB, or do they just take a new hire in class?
