Flight Attendant in uniform drinking @ IAD 1/10/2009
Didn't know where to post this one, as I was truly shocked....
Staying at a certain hotel @ IAD that is used by a lot of crews (Trans States, Mesa, and at least a couple of majors)
I went down to the restaurant to pick up dinner (take out). The restaurant is mostly a bar. When I sat down to order dinner, I saw a flight attendant in uniform dress sitting at the bar. I thought it was kind of weird, but thought maybe she was in a rush, and at this hotel, the "restaurant portion" is always closed for private functions. Well, bartender serves FA a tall beer, which FA starts drinking at the bar. She then starts talking to her neighbors about which airline she works for, what equip she flew in on, how long she has worked for airline, etc.
So my question to you, is what would you do? I didn't get a pic, would be too hard, but she told her airline and equip type, as well as where she is from, etc. I still couldn't believe what I saw. I obviously work for a regional, and while not acceptable, could see this happening at a regional. Was shocked to see this with a mainline FA.

Against that company's policies? More than likely. Unprofessional? Absolutely.
Don't really think its your place to address it unless it is your company.

Wow. Imagine how stupid this FA must be. What else must be going through your brain if the voices in your head even remotely convince you to drink in uniform at the hotel BAR. I would definitely do something about it even if it's not your company. The pax deserve better than a moron in charge of their safety.

yeah I saw a pilot drinking in BWI at the marriott about 3 months ago.. captain. blue and silver...chugging beers at the bar.. i thought it was like the man show, or a prank, but it was not.........we figured either he got fired, wife left him, or bent metal at the airport....there were TONs of crews in this bar too... this captain was also chatting it up with people at the bar about being a big airline pilot.... then all of a sudden he sprinted out of the bar leaving a full drink.....not sure if he saw someone or what?!

sometimes it is better to see something and not see it. it may have been unprofessional but it's not really your business to tell. drink a beer, have a few laughs on how stupid he/she might be and forget about it. i'm sure you have/will see worst.

In my army days we could drink in uniform, at the mess hall. When on leave we would ride around town in uniform going out, dinner, drinks etc... As long as we weren't making a fool of ourselves it was OK.
Alcohol is not the problem it is the people not respecting it. Remember those Trans States Pilots? That was unprofessonal. If they were in Uniform i very much doubt that anything like that would have ever happened.

How do you figure Unprofessional? Maybe people think this because management says it is.

In most cases its considered unprofessional to drink in uniform. In most cases it's against company policy. We already have enough to battle with this drunk pilot stereotype as shown in the thread about the SWA pilot. I'm sorry, but I don't agree with you. If you can't do it on duty, don't do it in uniform.

I agree. A flight attendant is a slightly different animal than a pilot. If it were a pilot I would probably say something to him.

This sentence explains the reason for my topic. Not saying that crewmembers aren't entitled to a drink on an overnight, but REALLY, how long does it take to go upstairs and change out of your uniform?
