Regional Airline Pilots, what are you worth?
#21
Don't need to I have a BS in a non-aviation program 20K max. My licenses and ratings 28K all the way thru MEI. It's OK we all make mistakes.

This thread is HILARIOUS. Nothing better than pilots pontificating and ruffling their beards about how much they think they should make. Keep it coming guys.
There is no such thing as what you SHOULD make, only what you DO make.

What you can negotiate, what you can enforce, as mentioned above, however; I don't think we'll ever get compensated what we're worth for what we actually do.
The average 2-3 year f/o here at XJT will make 45k to 55k (even post concessions) without working too hard....still not enough for the effort and the sacrifices that are made, and the same could be said across the board.
This is why is so important that guys understand the correlation between the crj900 and the DC9, and how flying a 900 replaces a DC9 at the new and improved Delta with guys making a third of their counterparts flying the 9.
The same thing goes for any other regional carrier in one way or the other. All flying should go back to mainline, all of it, 50 seats, 70, 90, and then, maybe then, we can honestly answer the question of how much we're worth.

I know, it's HILARIOUS watching our industry go down the crapper. I can't believe a pilot, with more responsibilities in one day than most will have in a lifetime, would ever desire to make more money than a librarian or a janitor (no hate intended for librarians or janitors).

Per a company previously mentioned, a regional FO is worth maybe 6 months of travel bennies, and if they could find an excuse to terminate you, they would before the furlough, 374 on the streets more maybe coming.
To some other places, the FO ain't worth the paper to print the pink slip.
And other places are thinking $7500, for you to pay them should you or they part ways before 18 months.
Welcome to being a dime a dozen, with a dozen more lined up behind you.

How about this... somebody make a website to honor the folks that are making an about face in this career. Show the guts it takes to say no to crappy wages and make them look like heroes. Give guys and gals true alternatives to the regionals other than teaching (for a crappy wage as well). Make flying look "not cool" and we'll have a true pilot shortage. If wages don't increase, we're fools for taking the jobs.
