Several of the Captains down in ABQ live in Phoenix and they have a very easy commute. Flights almost every hour to and from PHX.

I wouldnt see a problem with that. Same friend visits out here in AZ all the time and has no problems catching a Southwest back.

Is that temporary duty assignment in MKE as well? If so and I happen to live their anyway would I get per deim the entire time still. Another ? how much flying is done out of there? Is it something a new hire could bank on getting or no. Thanks in advance

MKE is TDY for our STL based crews. Yes, continuous per diem even if you live there. There are currently 4 MKE lines with 58-92 hours of flying a month. I'm pretty sure MKE is pretty junior right now -especially with winter on it's way.

That changes monthly. Over a year ago, I sat reserve for 1/2 of a month before I had a 100 hour line. Now, I've heard getting off reserve is taking a few months. You just bid all the lines until you are senior enough to hold the crappiest one.

I know I'm not Eatsleepfly, but per diem is $1.35. So, with TDY lines it ends up being an extra $400 per month, roughly. ABQ TDY lines are running pretty senior, so for the other posters, I wouldn't count on that. MKE TDY is being run by the St. Louis based crews, I believe, and is definitely pretty junior. I know the St. Louis base is probably going to disappear soon, as they are running St. Louis out of Denver, and TDYing all of the St. Louis based crews to operate MKE. Maybe it already has changed; I'm not 100% in the loop.

You will definitely need a crash pad on reserve. You will probably need a crash pad for your first line or two, until you get an easily commutable line. I wouldn't count on ABQ TDY, as all those lines are usually pretty senior. You may be able to get the weekend ABQ line pretty quick, but most likely not until you are on the line a few months.
