Does ExpressJet hire low time guy's only...?
I got this email from ExpressJet this morning after having send them my resume:
"Thank you for your interest in a career with ExpressJet. At this time, we do not have opportunities available that match your experience and skills. However, if a position more closely suited to your background develops, we will be happy to review your qualifications at that time. "
What does that mean? Are they just not hiring or is there some requirement I don't meet?
I just double checked their minimums and they are, according to airlinepilotcentral, as follows: "Minimums: 600 TT/100 ME; 1000TT/200 ME competitive"
I far exceed those minimums with my 2600TT, ATPL ME, etc
Do they prefer to hire low time guy's only?

i recieved the same e-mail and i have just about the time you do. whats even worse is that express has hired some students that i have given stage checks for and guys that have half the time i have. which makes me not even want to work for a company like that. i guess its just not ment to be.

I believe ExpressJet has a "partnership agreement" with ATP Flight School. I think it is only those graduates of ATP w/RJ rating that are hired at 600TT/100ME. I believe some of the other guys on this forum may be able to give you more concrete information.
On the other hand, I know how you must have felt opening the letter and knowing that you do meet and exceed the minimums, only to see..."Thank you for your interest.... Whenever I've seen that, I already know what the rest of the letter says.
Have you applied anywhere else? Don't give man! Keep getting your information out there.

High Time Pilots
I actually spoke with C. Colgan last year, who told me word for word that he didn't like to hire ppl like me because he knew they wouldn't stay long. After asking about the contract he replied that he really intended for people to stay longer than the contract. In this conversation he told me that he looks for low timers because they don't have the options that higher time guys do. At the time of this conversation I had about 3000TT and about 1200 ME. Good luck but sometimes waiting too long to start a career can make it harder, but after expanding my search I found several nice options for starting high time pilots. Just keep your ears to the ground.

question do you have a 4 year degree ???????
the reason i ask because mabye they want a certain # of guys that will stay. from what i hear thoses without a 4year don't have much of a chance getting to the majors in this day and age. Most of the people that l know that got hired at express have little or no college. just a thought.

Personality/Attitude
Getting hired isn't all about flight time and having a four year degree. It's also about how you present yourself to the interviewers. In the back of their mind they are thinking "Is this someone I can fly with?" They want to see that you communicate well, present yourself professionally, and that they can sit in a cockpit with you for an extended period of time without going insane. If you have a bad attitude and you think you are God's gift to aviation and that attitude comes out in the interview you better believe that you're going to get that same letter every time. Don't be stuck up, say yes sir/mam, no sir/mam, and keep your stuff together. Potray yourself as you would want to see an applicant if you were doing the interview. I'm not saying that anyone here has a bad attitude or personality so don't take it that way. However, if you find yourself continuing to receive the "Thanks, but no thanks" letter then maybe you should start looking the the mirror instead of at your logbook. Just my $0.02.

Wise words indeed. However, the guy that started the thread didn't even make it to the interview yet and get a chance to "sell himself".

One of the guys that I work with was told directly when he asked express jet why he was not hire that he was "over qualified". He had over 2000 hours as well. This tells me they want people closer to 1000 hours.
