republic is being very aggresive in aquiring new flying but to call it the new mesa is crap. Our pay is equal to every one elses---except mesa's its alot better than that. We dont have junior manning, have more guranteed days off, have block or better, and properly staff an airline enough to allow it to run reliably. Yeah we are getting more flying while others are losing theirs but its not additional, its replacement flying to cover what we lost with F9.
Here is the Mesa comparison. JO and his croanies did whatever it took to acquire new flying. If that meant undermining pilot groups, knowing, willing, and criminally acting in an anti-competitive manner etc.... RAH is buying flying from anybody who will take their money. Midwest, US Air, and now something in Hawaii. They are ruining pilot groups at the same time....Midwest. Flying an airplane for anybody who will pay something for it, even it it is a capricious amount (the mighty CAL cpa) is whoring. Mesa *****s.....RAH now does too. It has nothing to do with the Mesa CBA, theirs is a result of Mesa management.

There's a problem if you are flying around 70 seat jets and you can't make a career out of it. Maybe you need to change your thinking. Are the "regionals" putting mainline pilots out of work? I would say so. Skywest's 700's and especially the little guppies that Shuttle flies are the reason for United pilots being out of work. Mesa, PSA's and Republic's aircraft are the reason US Airways pilots are out of work. I would love to move on but the way things are going... what for.
As for Midwest, had someone not injected money into it there would be no Midwest. It's been said, we are no more happy about the way that "went down" but we were also not exactly consulted first. In the end we may of came to the same conclusion given all of the facts. If you recall the deal is that they have a chance to take our aircraft and MY flying, yet to be determined.
And you can whiz and moan all you want about RAH buying business but I am pretty sure that's called investing and securing the future. Who's next, CAL or United, who wants some?
You guys can rant and rave all you want about how the management of companies handle their business but it gets a little tiring hearing how some how its our (the flight crews) fault. I don't know about you but I need my 45K this year and taking a walk to fall on my sword so someone else can take my seat isn't going to happen.
And yes I wish it were more than 45K but that got screwed up long before I and most of you got into this business. The mainline pilots of yesteryear may of thought about that when they handed down the "little jets" too.
As for locking threads, that's for the unions to pull that sort of crap, yep we'd been down that road. If you can't take what's getting dished out then move on.

Canada Based Airline Expanding Routes to Hawaii

Canada Based Airline Expanding Routes to Hawaii | KHON2.com - News, Sports, Weather | Local Top Stories
In an otherwise weak tourism outlook for Hawaii, the trend from Canada is on the upswing, and about to get better.
A Canada-based airline expanding its winter routes to Hawaii, bringing thousands of visitors from the north our way each week. They may partner with upstart interisland airline Mokulele, and Hawaiian responds.
Westjet is boosting hawaii capacity about 20 percent this winter as demand from canadian tourists booms -- 23 flights will bring 3,500 guests weekly.
Which can't be said about Hawaii's U.S. mainland market. Hawaii is seeing solid growth from Canada . They stay the longest, and they're shopping.
Westjet flies from Vancouver to Honolulu, Maui and Kona. they're eying Kauai, and they're exploring a partnership with Mokulele airlines to pre-sell interisland packages.
Hawaiian Airlines President, Mark Dunkerley says, "If Westjet wants to give us a call we'd always be happy to talk to them, if they decide to go with somebody else we will be there competing as we always do."
Mokulele last week announced its own expansion, citing a price and capacity void left by aloha. Hawaiian says the interisland pie is actually shrinking and that price is up in the air until Mokulele, GO and Hawaiian are actually battling it out as of next month.
"The marketplace has its own dynamic, we don't set the fares, we don't tell everybody what the fares should be. It's unlikely they would be setting the fares and telling everybody what it would be."
Hawaiian, meanwhile, remains committed to its 4 billion dollar airbus fleet purchase -- what they say is the largest private sector investment in hawaii history. It makes possible nonstop routes as far away as the asian continent and europe. No word yet if Canada is on their list. But they welcome the added visitors Westjet will bring for now.
Westjet says they're meeting with Governor Linda Lingle tomorrow about state marketing partnerships.

So you're mad at smart business practices? I haven't seen RAH buy any flying. I've seen them loan money to companies who couldn't get financing guaranteeing a decent rate of return that if isn't met they can gain assets worth more than the loan itself. It's called business.

The story is simple pilots at RAH like all contract regionals bid for flying. Thus, in order to win contracts the pilots almost always have a lower total compensation, and weaker contract than the pilots they replaced. I blame now one for wanting a career in aviation just don' t be surprised when you never get chance to fly larger equipment or you end up flying that bigger equipment for whole lot less than you planned. There is no dream job only the one you fight for. I have been on strike, furloughed, dragged through BK and I know for a fact someday some will do to RAH as they have done to others. That is what management counts on, and the reason Alaska pilots will strike until our contract contains the scope protections required to make being a pilot career with having.
