Colgan and Commuting From Chicago???
I am wondering if there is anyone here who commutes from Chicago and works for Colgan? I am going to be sending my resume out there shortly and am wondering how feasible it is to commute from Chicago. My wife has a good job so moving isn't really what we want to do...besides all of our family is in Chicago. Thanks for the info.

It does not matter where you live. You can live on the other side of the globe. All that matters is that you are there when they need you. Truth is that commuting sucks. It eats away at your valuable "home" time. I know guys that live in calliforia and work in new york, it just makes your life even more crappy.

I work for Colgan and unfortunately have to go through Chicago about 75% of the time. If I can get a direct flight between PIT-MSP then it's only a two leg commute for me. Through ORD it's a 3 leg ordeal, ugh. Sundays are the worst. 2 out of the past 3 Sundays this month I've had to ride shotgun in the cockpit of a MidAtlantic 170. It seems ORD has some of the highest space available (ie non-rev) traffic in the country which makes sense but leaves you biting your nails as all your options are oversold and you only have 3 chances to ride in the cockpit back to work. I hope a mainline pilot, wholly owned express pilot, or FAA inspector doesn't need to get the same place and time you're going. Most Colgan schedules put 3 days off together, although sometimes it is 2 days or 4 days. If you get off duty early on your last day then you have a good chance of getting back that night giving you 3 nights and 2 full days home, otherwise you lose a morning on your first day off and the entire 3rd day off to commuting. That scenario would give you 2 nights and 1.5 days at home per week. The company "understands" that you might need to commute, however there is no commuter policy at Colgan and your failure to show due to not being able to get back is grounds for termination. Sucks huh?
I'm commuting while I'm a FO but hoping to move to my base once I upgrade. Colgan is great if you live in base, but difficult if you don't.

PVD has a few flights per day into Chicago...both airports....Southwest and United. One leg and BOS as a back-up as you can get a bus from BOS-PVD.
Boston would open up the Maine Beach bases for you and Presque Isle Maine for the SAAB.
I do not know the current hiring schedule at colgan. i know it will be less than last year. But I hear some sort of class monthly.
Good luck!
