Default Would you take off knowing a door is open?

Last week we were waiting in line for 17 in MSP. Ahead of us and #2 for TO was a Mesaba CRJ200 with the high pressure air door hanging open under the left engine. A pinnacle flight radioed "Mesaba xxxx your high pressure air door is open" and Mesaba responded "thanks". They took off soon after.

I don't know what kind of damage that does or what kind of noise it makes in the air but it didn't seem like the best idea to me. I'm really hoping they didn't just check the doors page and figure everything was good.

I know the door where the ground crew plugs in their headphones gets left open all the time. It doesn't do any damage, just makes a lot of noise. Taking off knowing that it is open is a different story though.

Yeah, wow is that annoying, glad I have an ANR headset cuz it's one of the most annoying sounds I've ever heard...

Or falls off into a school playground and hits a kid on the head. Very dumb thing to do that could be potentially dangerous if everything goes wrong that day. The cause of every accident is a series of events.

If any injury or damage had occured as a result of that door falling off, the personal injury lawyers would have a field day with the pilots and Mesaba.

Taking off with a known unsafe configuration is pretty bad ju-ju. I'm not a lawyer, but I think "criminal negligence" or "recklessness" might be in play.

I do not condone what they did and would not knowing do it myself but....

"It could hit a starving, orphaned Ethiopian that was carrying an endangered snow leopard pup..." If your going to be dramatic about this then go all the way. Cut the poor little school boy crap out and really get some attention. lol

All potentially unsafe conditions should be addressed with the appropriate amount of caution. These guy obviously didn't care, or thought someone was pulling their leg.

It would make the door trail closer to the airframe, but not latch it.
