It's called **** poor planning. Guess they didn't realize that half their SOE Captains and Simulator instructors would be ready to run out the door when their flow numbers came up.
The problem Piedmont is dealing with is that they were already a small very senior airline. Now add American wanting them to double in size with a new type plane and at the same time having Senior Pilots ready to run out the door every month American sends you a class date, we'll you'll have issues if you didn't properly gear up for it.
They should've had SOE instructors ready to go, they should've been training Sim instructors also to be ready to go.
I honestly don't know how they are going to do it. I could see a merger with another airline with Piedmont. Trying to double in size in this environment is going to be brutal to say the least. I could see the Dash's maybe going away faster then some may want just to keep up with training of one airplane alone. Remember all the 100's are paid for and could be parked easily.
A new CEO will be taking over soon and maybe he'll have the right answers.

Just pay more. Endeavor and the other higher paying regional airlines aren't having any troubles recruiting new pilots.

They can pay more but still won't get caught up. They can't even handle 15-20 pilots a month as it is.
Piedmont starting out small in the first place was there problem. Endeavor has over 1500 pilots. Piedmont, isn't even close to half that size. They needed to first grow their infrastructure. SBY as your headquarters? What a joke!
American invested money into PSA and they are trying to run Piedmont with pennies. Something has to give or they'll never get out of there current hole they've dug themselves into.

Is this your first regional? Yeah dude its not mainline. Put your apps out. Go to job fairs. Get a ticket like everybody else. Get out if you want out so bad, but unfortunantly its not that easy getting hired man. If you start down the path of hating your job everyday it will not benefit you. It will just make you miserable. Its not like its freaking rainbows at other regionals.

I don't think you've been reading the post. A training backlog is not created by not enough new pilots coming through the door... It's more of a result of poor planning from the onset. IE big classes and limited instructors/sims. But, hindsight is 20/20...

Here is my take on it. Not that it matters but maybe it will help those that are thinking of coming to PDT in the near future. I was out of aviation for a few years prior to coming to PDT. I was actually pretty successful at my last jobs and won a bunch of awards and got promoted pretty quickly. So, I've seen what it's like outside of aviation.
When I tell my friends (non-aviation) that I've been sitting at home on a semi-paid vacation they are pretty envious. Now 2 months is a long time to sit if they are still that backed up. But I spent a TON of time with my family and even got a second job to do on the side if I wanted too.
Now, I'm making a lot less than I did at my previous job but I'm doing something I want to do. The Dash is a ton of fun to fly (my experience is limited to the sim) and it makes me feel accomplished that I made it through a tough but fair training program.
With all of that being said, it's perspective. If you go into it with a crappy attitude thats the type of experience you're going to have. Funny thing is, thats with any career or airline you choose to go to. From the capts I've talked to even though we are in a crappy position with growth. It's a hell've a lot better position the company was in 2/3 years ago.
Perspective.
