The individual who reported the unprofessional antics of JK to SBY (When he told the new hires to get the F out of the classroom) was in that 25%. Obviously backing the new hires when they reported this to SBY did not gain him any points with TD management. Then no surprise he fails upgrade.
Would these two events be connected? If I were a betting man I would say yes.
One eye, you seem knowledgable about the workings of the TD so I must ask your opinion on this event.

One of the benefits of the review board is that a pilot can request any available instructor to work with – the key word being available. In this case, the TD made available the instructor the pilot requested.
As I noted in my earlier post, each upgrade failure was afforded more than twice the normal amount of simulator time. To be successful each party has to bring something to the table. Given the company provided an abundance of simulator time and the TD provided the instructor of the pilot’s choice, I’ll let you draw your own conclusion as to what really happened.

OneEye, thanks for giving some more detailed information. All we can go off of is what little information our union reps send out. However, I don't know why the disparity between your information (which I'm sure is more accurate), and the original statement from ALPA's minutes that were posted. Regardless, I'm still troubled by the mentality surrounding that statement. I'd also suggest that if certain trouble areas are continuously being identified for our captain upgrades, the program needs to be re-evaluated, and improved to help correct these areas. That is one of the benefits of having AQP.

Sadly, I witnessed the entire fiasco...Don't know what to say, but I can tell you that I have never witnessed anything like I saw in CLT. I will also say that there are some VERY good instructors in the TD, but the overall culture, philosophy and doctrine is poor. An organization is only going to be as successful as the people within it succeeding and reaching their goals... And, that is what is missing...just my opinion...
