Would these two events be connected? If I were a betting man I would say yes.

One eye, you seem knowledgable about the workings of the TD so I must ask your opinion on this event.
While I have to admit the “class lecture” shocked even me, the two events were not related. When a pilot has problems during training, the CBA allows for a review board so the pilot and his or her representative can discuss the issues. None of the failed upgrades or their representatives expressed any concerns about the TD including JK with the review board. If I remember correctly, they each chose the same representative. The board includes the TC chairman, a management person from flight and a TD management person. The board must agree on the recommendation. In each case, all board members recommended more training.

One of the benefits of the review board is that a pilot can request any available instructor to work with – the key word being available. In this case, the TD made available the instructor the pilot requested.

As I noted in my earlier post, each upgrade failure was afforded more than twice the normal amount of simulator time. To be successful each party has to bring something to the table. Given the company provided an abundance of simulator time and the TD provided the instructor of the pilot’s choice, I’ll let you draw your own conclusion as to what really happened.

I was a union rep before I left. Two reps busted upgrade attempt 1, one other busted CQ. Bet you're wrong.

Regardless, I'm still troubled by the mentality surrounding that statement. I'd also suggest that if certain trouble areas are continuously being identified for our captain upgrades, the program needs to be re-evaluated, and improved to help correct these areas. That is one of the benefits of having AQP.
The MEC minutes were accurate in that the pilots that failed (other than the written failure and early withdrawal) had issues associated with situational awareness and workload planning. To better address those concerns, the TD added more days to both the systems and procedures classes. Those days are used for simulator evaluators to discuss planning for non-normal events relative to systems failures and to review scenario-based training. Common errors are also discussed. Those extra days were added beginning with the 5th upgrade class this year and the feedback, thus far, has been positive and the success rate has increased.

CommutAir has a bit of a quicker time to the left seat if you'd like to fly a Dash. PM me and I'll tell you everything.

Sadly, I witnessed the entire fiasco...Don't know what to say, but I can tell you that I have never witnessed anything like I saw in CLT. I will also say that there are some VERY good instructors in the TD, but the overall culture, philosophy and doctrine is poor. An organization is only going to be as successful as the people within it succeeding and reaching their goals... And, that is what is missing...just my opinion...
