Piedmont needs to get its act together before something worse than a belly landing occurs.
Dont fall into the trap about a mainline opportunity, if you do get an interview good luck getting hire. If piedmont cant find a replacement your not going anywhere. The sad part is that piedmont is not so bad its just poorly run.. If parker is serious about making the new american profitable he will 1. Shut down piedmont. (most likely to happend) or 2. Build piedmont with next gen Q400 with first class. The same way Alaska one of the most profitable airline did with horizon. Q400 will compete with the crj 700 and erj 170 also Parker can park and get rid of a large number of money wasting 50 seat crj and erjs. But this wont happen and The new American will be the old American with a crappy new paint and logo.

Itll be shutdown before they get Qs. And mainline doesnt want the over 40 capts anyway. I agree with all of the above. Avoid pdt. imho

As a CFI I have looked at Piedmont for a year now. I was happy to see the 12 month flow to the major. It seems like it wont be easy to get out of Piedmont once they have you. I instruct in California now. I was hoping to move back east since there is very little jobs in the west. Hopefully Piedmont can upgrade the planes and compete with RAH and Skywest...I have 1300 total but only 275 x-c, so who knows what will happen once I actually qualify to interview.

2 things- There will never be a 12 month road to mainline. Theyll get at least 3-4 years out of you before Big Brother will let you leave (read the contract about flowthru) btw its contingent on the needs of Piedmont.
If you think that Airways is going to upgrade equipment, check out the Q400 training program that has collected dust in CLT HQ. They re parking 3 dashs this year. Also good luck with sweating your ass off in the summer. It can be a miserable job with no out.
Go to one of the jet regionals- If you get trapped for a few years, at least the equip is modern and comfortable. Opinions vary - get a ton of them and good luck.

Good advice, It is always smart to listen to the experiences of the guys senior to us CFI's out there. But honestly there is so many less CFI's out there....My school is trying to hire 30 Instructors by next Monday. Never gonna happen. I'm curious what the future will hold If there really is a "shortage"

Congrats on being close to the atp. Shortages will be at the regional level, however, the routes that regionals fly are for the majors so an adjustment will have to be made. Im sure that the airlines are spending millions in payoffs to get that 1500 reduced to 1000. Right now the majors are adjusting to the new work rules but its only 50 more hires a year or some small percentage(someone has the accurate numbers). Just be patient and stay positive- 2 qualities that are essential if you wanna gut it out to the major level. Itll happen for you bro. Good luck

Also avoid PSA as a jet regional if your goal is to go to US or AA. PSA has the same BS as piedmont. Of course if your dad is the VP of flight ops at Airways or a management pilot you will get picked right up. If you don't have a legacy or are not a minority don't waste your time with PSA either. The flowthrough was a lie. The staffing is always terrible. Mainline will never call you.

And the truth shall set you free... Gofish is on the money.
If you're a gamblin man, look into Eagle. The gamble is to get the AA flowthru before they park the 145s. Prob take 6 years for either to happen-thats a total guess

Yea I have looked at Eagle a lot, however this "New" fleet plan which turned out to just be restructuring scares me a little. Plus long RSV and Long upgrades seem to be the case, maybe I'm wrong though....

Honestly as a CFI I feel protected everyday it is the same routine and a paycheck, but the planes stink. Half the day I think about how close I am to a regional and the other half of the day I think about why I should stay away. These forums really help though (when people aren't bickering at each other)

PSA I have not looked at much due to negativity a lot of guys post here. But my dream since I was 6 years old has been AA or US. Either way until I can go to Piedmont or wherever I will just keep on endorsing and asking for touch and go clearances...

AA and US were my dream too.

Telling it like it is on here is my way of saying "UP YOURS" PSA and USAirways management for screwing us out of our flowthrough. Its therapeutic, thanks for listening! I hope nobody shows up for class at PSA or PDT....EVER
