PDT News and Rumors

It will be interesting to see what transpires. What happens when summer is over though and flying goes back down to the lower block hours? Without PHX flying or the 200's purchased is everyone just going to be on a permanent seasonal employment. If that's the case I guess I would consider being a teacher, Piedmont would be a great summer job, better than most of the grade school teachers I know who work at Target or construction during the summer.

Any rumor as to when the notices would go out? Seems like a lot of people to try to get trained in one month...assuming they have recalls merged into the normal CQ classes. I wonder if they will have a separate class for just recalls?

Nothing interesting on Ask PDT, except this (in answer to a PHX question):
A. Any opportunity for us in PHX is on hold until the outcome of the Mesa CH 11 filing is determined. As we said in another answer, when we get a resolution on our LGA flying, we will conduct an overall domicile assessment.
The "another answer" referred to was about someone asking about a sitting reserve out of base in CLT and the idea of a "reserve-only" base there as something they'll consider amongst that assessment.

I'm gonna ask if we can at least work something out with the new hotel to share our group rate with them. After all, having to deal with Dr. Claw and his cronies gets rather stressful and a guy needs something to take a load off, know what i mean?

Q. Dear Cosmo Bucci (aka ME), 2 questions i have read on here are from you and they are more gripe and moans than they are questions. You say you would like a morale boost. This should be your morale boost...YOU GOT YOUR JOB BACK!!! Quit complaining and be thankful!
A. We agree there is something to be said for employment, particularly given the state of the economy and our industry.

I don't care whether you were 1 guy above me or at the top of the list, you escaped the furlough. Good for you, I wouldn't wish it even on you. (I'm honestly serious).
Yes I'm happy to be making more than unemployment, but I'm not happy to be welcomed back into a used hooker's bed.
Bottom line, I love the work I do and the guys and gals I work with. The way the company treats its employees leaves room for desire.
Whoever you are (because you don't sign your posts), please remember you'll feel pretty annoyed this month when your pay report is wrong because of all the abnormalities last month. Enjoy hunting down your $ on your own time. Ya, that's all part of the way the company treats us, make us work on our time off to stop them from making off with our $....
And I really would like to hear from you, please if you see me on the line, tell me how you feel, I'd be happy to talk about why I feel how I do and why you feel how you do.
Genius...
In response to Jay's response regarding the CLT training hotel issue, this is my hotel complaint submitted after my DEC training event: While the hotel itself carries the appearance of friendliness and has all the makings of a nice hotel it fails to deliver on every front. The first thing that comes to mind is the transportation options. Which leave much to be desired. If this hotel were in a decent neighborhood with plenty to do near by it would be a different story, one wrong turn in this neighborhood and you're never too sure what to expect. Other than only being able to schedule a hotel can once an hour (with questionable results at that), you can generally expect to make the rounds to the 5 (read; five) other hotels that this van services. Although the van driver was very friendly and apologetic she did seem a bit over worked. The fact that there is a prostitute in residence here may sound charming at first, but after realizing those late night door slammings down the "hallway" aren't what they at first appear to be soon wears tiresome after a long day of training. The idea of a "continental breakfast" seems to be lost on the fine folks at the Homestead Studio Sweets, and while the kitchens provided are quite lovely, the aforementioned van has yet to appear for a ride to anywhere I could purchase some food. The woman at the front desk had the appearance of over-tasking as well. After the fifteenth ring to the front desk I simply gave up and walked down there to receive a curt and unfriendly interaction. I hope that this complaint doesn't give the appearance of simple whining, I pride myself in being able to make the best out of any situation. This hotel has just simply vexed me too many times for too many years. I hope that everyone has a wonderful holiday season and a very safe new years.
Please see other posting and answer.

My various experiences over 4 stays totaling over 8 weeks of my life are in line with what others have experienced.
This message is to Jay Keen about the last Ask Piedmont's CLT training hotel rant. I agree with everything Cosmo said in that the hotel has had a really bad prostitution problem since I was hired almost 3 years ago. Every year I return I see the same problem over and over again. Prostitutes coming in and out of the rooms with their Johns dealing business outside in their Cadillac Escalades on 24 inch spinner rims. When I was in training 1 week ago I asked the hotel clerk if the prostitution problem had been cleared up and he said that it had appeared to have been taken care of. I guess every industry has been hit hard by the economy! The bedding in those hotel rooms were rather disgusting and I made every effort to limit the amount of bed surfaces I touched - we all know what went on excessively in that room many times before! (prostitution) By the way, thanks for changing the hotel. We look forward to staying in something nicer, as opposed to the "Homeless" Suites - a hotel I wouldn't even put my dog up in. Having the hotel van only available every hour was not conducive to proper sleep when we had 6am sim sessions. This new hotel ought to be a safer and more enjoyable experience.
No one in the Training Department is saying that the Homestead was a great hotel. It was originally picked for only one reason; it had kitchens. When a new First Officer is here for 6 plus weeks the kitchens at least allowed them to eat. As for the issues, there were problems but most of it was exaggerated. Either way it does not matter since we are changing hotels. My issue was the tone of the posting, especially by a pilot fresh from furlough. I knew a couple of the migrant construction workers and they were hard working individuals who are facing a lot harder road than most pilots. Blanket statements about entire classes of people helps no one. Jay

I have NO problem with Migrant construction workers either as people, I can't say anything about their character beside I agree, to do that job shows that they will do what it takes to put food on the table. I just said they come and go at ODD hours making a lot of noise which can and does make sleeping difficult. This specific experience was from a previous stay there.
And most fundamentally, I don't care if you have 20 years or 20 months with the company. Fresh back from Furlough or the last guy who made the cut, nobody should be marginalized like that. Why does my service and tenure which was interrupted not by my choice matter less than someone who has been here 1 year longer, 5 years longer, etc.
My rant was about a bad hotel and a problem that needed to be corrected, without any negative association to anyone.

I certainly understand both sides on this issue. But when a pilot is there for 2 nights for CQ, do you really need something super nice? Piedmont stayed in the Econo lodge in Elmira for goodness sake. That place is worse off then homestead. You can't even sit on the toilet and close the door at the same time!
I totally agree with Jay regarding the kitchens. I did SOE out of MDT while staying at the Best Western with no kitchen. I was there for 3 weeks and I cannot tell you how hard it is to alternate between the Wendy's and Taco Bell in the same parking lot and Subway down the road. I really hope for future new hires sake that the new hotel has a fridge and microwave. It got to the point I was cooking ramen in the coffee maker.
I also agree with Jay's comment regarding the tone of the poster. I am not saying that the poster was 100% wrong in being frustrated as I too have heard the homestead noises. What I am saying is you did just come off of furlough. You and the other recalls represent the rest of us still on furlough. By doing what you did, you could or have casted a negative attitude from the training department toward those on furlough. Almost as if they will expect us to come back with a grudge. Again, I am not saying what you did was wrong, I do feel you could have handled it a little better then you did but what is done is done. IMO I think an apology to Jay would not be out of line.

Clearly you don't!
Nope, just something that complies with our contract provisions for overnight hotels. The ELM hotel was a dump, so was Homestead.
Q: which complied with the contract?
A: ELM
Awesome, this hotel was for new hires, and as per contract it was acceptable. So was double occupancy.
We are not new hires anymore, recalls are NOT new hires either... So the new hire hotel is not acceptable... Trash, do you want to be sharing rooms with other crew members for your overnights because it works for the company?
Oh, and I do recall at least through Dec. 2007 all the upgrades and CQ classes were at different hotels than the Homestead...
So, the whole need for kitchens FOR NON new hires just FLEW right out the window. Wheeee!
Somebody's gotta hold up and wave the flag. Remember Mel Gibson in the Patriot? Who Dat?
