Ok, kids, settle down. If nobody has anything productive to say, I am happy to close this thread. In the meantime, I will hold off on reminders/infractions, but will be forced to practice my infraction kung fu on the next posters who can't stay civil.

Yea.. even if there are increases in for summer flying, with no "new" airlplanes they won't need more then 20.
Last year when they canceled the furloughs for the Spring, there were 20 guys who got to keep their jobs for a bit longer. Those 20 are what they needed to fill the summer void, with 4 aircraft less then before.
Now, with another 7 gone, I doubt they will need more back to fill in for this summer. If there are recalls, I honestly doubt it will be more then another few..

Build ups will fly because they aren't going to pay you 4 hrs to sit at home. Guys with full reserve lines don't cost the same so they will be the first to sit. I think we need to have something in our contract to allow a reserve pilot to request a minimum amount of flying, if they choose to do so.

I think we should push for more days off or raise monthly guarantee. If u think about it, monthly gaurantee (due to minimum 4 hrs per day) should be around 80 hrs considering the month is 30 days, for days that it is 31, the company (because the contract states 10 days off per month) is getting to work all reserves an extra day without pay. So, for future contracts for ALL carriers in negotiations, I think it should read something along the lines of 20 days working per month, not 10 days off per month. As for PDT, it would be nice to raise guarantee (which won't happen I think) to account for this or more days off per month.
Now this is all pipeline dreaming, I've stated this to ALPA when my opinion is asked. I'll believe it when I see it. Kinda like the PHX flying. I'll believe that when I'm calling V1...rotate in PHX.
But I try to look at the glass as half full, not half empty cause there isn't too much I can do right now to change the world and I find it better to be happy than to be bitter and sad.

I hate to break it to all those waitin recall but, on reserve, I haven't worked in three weeks. So to all the kool-aid drinkers who think we are understaffed here's one guy who doesn't think so with some facts to back it up. Who knows what March will bring though. Although it has given me time to grow a nice beard?

Here's some more facts. I've flown almost every day on reserve in February. My roomate also has broken guarantee two months in a row. Where are you based? If we aren't understaffed, we are fairly close to it. I've also heard from multiple sources, including the MEC, that there may be an additional 25 or so recalls in the next couple of months to prepare for summer flying...

Too bad they didn't get any of those new duty time regulations pushed through. Then perhaps they would be recalling everyone for the summer, instead of 10-20 (the bare minimum to get through the summer under current regulations). I'm happy for any recalls, I just wish the FAA would hurry it up. They have only been contemplating changing the regs for what, 10-20 years now?

I have been wondering this....Piedmont seems like the kind of airline that would do this, but would an airline recall a bunch of pilots just to furlough again in say 3 months? I could see Piedmont bringing back say 30 pilots total for the summer....then November/December furloughing them again. Or do you think that those they bring back, would be working until next year when the airplanes run up on their cycles? I know this has an answer that has a bunch of variables but, generally, would an airline spend the money to retrain just to furlough again soon after?

Well I assume they recalled these guys back for attrition.. so I would say 20 more. I mean I am simply looking in the dark.
When we had more airplanes, for summer flying they canceled the 20 furloughs. Now we have less airplanes, so I would assume they are going to need probably (logically) less then 20 guys back for the summer flying... depending on how much there will be, and also on our current staffing level.
I try to be optimistic too, but when you're getting hammered from every direction with crap news, it's hard to do.
