PDT News and Rumors

I hate the CRJ as much as anyone. It's a pony jet. I flew the dash before upgrading, and it's a far superior airplane.
I fly for the Guard as well, but thanks for the well wishes.

I'm the FO who cried on the line.
Its because when you were whining about being downgraded, i suddenly realised how I too would have to wait 15 years at PDT before getting enough time to move on with my career. I cried.

We have a flawed training system. It's spring-loaded to the arbitrary position du jour. They are capable of and do some fantastic work, to be sure, but two options remain when a captain with 15000 hr in TYPE downgrades forever or a gob****e with zero SA and ability are allowed to fly pax. Here they are, in no particular order:
1) Training dept failed
2) Training dept failed
They shouldn't have failed at all.

I spoke with one of the guys that was downgraded and he blames no one other than himself. He said he did not have any issues with the check-ride and that his performance did not meet the level of an instrument pilot, much less an ATP with his experience. I have to admire his honesty. I guess there are two sides to a story. Ours, and what really happened.

It was just between pilots, but he said he was not going to pursue the issue. From what he was telling me, it sounded really bad. Sounds like he knew things were messed up and he just wants to concentrate on fixing the problems he has. It's much easier to blame training all the time but if the real problem lies elsewhere that won't fix anything. Like I said, I have to admire him for being candid. He could have just put the blame on training like the rest of 'em. I've been in the business for a long time and I've seen the young one's that didn't have what it takes from the start and I've seen some of the old one's start to lose it. I think most of us have a story or two about certain captains that have scared us to death, yet we still think it's always training fault when they fail.
