Well, the WARN letter stated 9/10/08, but the attached spreadsheet with the affected names said 9/1/08...no one really knows anything at this point. The Feb/Mar 08 classes (including me...) are in the bottom 176

They will be replaced by crew members being downgraded or other FO's getting bumped out of base. The arbitrator ruled in favor of the union regarding the MCO displacement so the company will have to rework the DEN guys (they were stapled on to the grievance as far as I understand) and play by the rules for the furlough (which so far, the company has). There's going to be a lot of crew members moving around inside the company in the upcoming months.
The only bright spot I can see to this whole downgrade/furlough situation is this arbitration came out at exactly the right time and very much in favor of the pilot group. It does very little for the guys getting the axe; I wish you guys the best and hope to see you back real soon. However, for the guys that made the cut, this is a huge win.

Just talked to my friend on the CRJ in HOU. He was on vacation in Utah and hadn't heard anything until I called. If I had known that he was relaxing I would have waited until he got home, bad timing on my side. Now he's working to figure out the lowdown but he said he's got around 700+ below him and feels safe for now. He was hoping for an upgrade in the next year but now knows that’s a pipe dream.
Best of luck guys.

That still doesn't explain how they are going to cover the dozen lines + reserve flying when they have no transition classes running yet. I know the RW side is over staffed by a couple dozen, and obviously CHQ is where the excess staff is, but they can't magically make them qualified on the S5 side in nearly enough time (especially with August awards coming out any day). My point is I can't see how they can manage to dump all 176 at the same time with only 6 weeks to retrain/displace.
Maybe Sharkey can explain this in better detail I'm unsure how the company will handle the displaced CVG guys. I don't know if they'd move you to different equipment based on seniority # or if they'd simply take the guys from CVG and put them where needed.

I guess I'm more just wondering out loud what sort of realistic timeline the furloughs will occur on (since I'm affected), since its I can't really see them dumping all 176 FOs at once.
Also, I'm sure this MCO displacement grievance "victory" will play a big role in the upcoming displacements.

Does anyone honestly think they are going to furlough in seniority and not just fire the probationary FO's on the certificates that they are fat? This is a company that per Bedford is going to trim the fat on expenses. The cost of retraining will be much greater than the cost of fighting the grievance and paying out a 20% settlement down the road.
