Canceled flight Miami to JFK
Although I can not find the story on the internet yet, Foxnews reported this morning that American Airlines canceled a flight from Miami to JFK. The story went something like this.
Flight was scheduled at 945 and the crew showed up an hour and fifteen minutes late. When they where walking up to the gate, the pax began to boo. Pax had already been yelling at the gate agents and one pax on the flight was quoted as saying that the other people were acting like a mob. The crew said that they would not fly the plane, and after two hours of looking for another crew, American finally cancelled the flight.
The news report did not say the aircraft type, so it is hard to say if this is mainline or a regional (not that it really matters either way). It also did not give a reason why the crew was late. I still say good for the crew. I am guessing that there is a good reason why they were late (delayed flight coming in, proper rest delayed the show time, etc.) and I am assuming that the pax got the reason and didn't care. This comes back to the fact that the average person in the back of the plane has no idea what the crew goes through on a day to day basis to get the flights out on time. Although I doubt that it will happen, I hope the news coverage on at least one of the stations is fair. I wish that one day, it would be pointed out how hard we are truly working.
