[quote=naley70b;417441]How is it that colgan is bleeding money in LGA fly t-props? I mean, you guys have really low labor costs and I don't know all the intricacies of the contract (is there even one?) with Airways, I'm a EN LGA FO so i'm interested about the new routes, but i've got quite a few friends doing the colgan and i don't wanna see anyone lose their job, especially due to underhanded management techniques.

Colgan is losing money on the LGS opps. They went to US Air and said they could not do it for that cheap and US Air is giving the flying to its Piedmont.

Colgan only gets the money from the flight to LGA and then wherever the pax goes from there goes to US Airways. US Airways has discounted some of the fares into LGA so that means a smaller cut for Colgan but US Airways still makes up for it with the higher fare when the pax connects in LGA. Colgan could make money on those flights by cutting back frequency but Airways wants the flights to go regardless of pax count because they want to keep their traffic slots at LGA which are valuable.

you cant turn a whole lot of revenue in 19 or 30 seats. As much as everyone likes to believe turboprops are the most fuel efficient way to transport people you still have economies of scale. larger airplanes have lower CASM. the dash8-200 can move 50 folks for a small increase in fuel burn over the 30 seat saab... with more cutbacks coming to the industry you may be able to fill larger aircraft and smaller t props need to find new routes to fit their size

This reduction is a bad situation for every one. I for one truly hope that they honor their word. I am about 45 seats back from upgrade. I would rather get the opportunity to upgrade but I will learn to fly another airplane if I need to. I just don't want to have to sign another training contract.
Iquiteagle, I hope everything works out for you, I truely enjoyed the opportunity to fly with you and I learned alot over the course of our trip.
Aren't they picking up routes from XJT?

...Don't you mean 37 seats? AND Piedmont doesn't fly 200's anymore. They dumped those a little over 2 years ago. They fly 100's and 300's. The 100's hold 37 pax, and the 300's hold 50 pax. Get it right!

Just bustin' your stones bro...no worries.

Colgan Saabs have 30-34 seats, Piedmonts' Dash8-100 have 37, and Dash8-300 have 50.
