Default Island Air and the Q400

Any idea why Island Air discontinued using the Q400 for their inter-island Hawai'i operation? I'm guessing at the time it was too much capacity. Now that Aloha is no longer with us, any idea if they will try to fly the Q400 again as they now fly some of the primary interisland flights (HNL-OGG, etc)?

Default Additional question.....

Anyone know if Island is hiring, or plans to hire anytime soon?

If I remember correctly Island Air sold off all or at least most of their options on the Q400. This is how Frontier was able to start up operations so fast. I tried to find the info on the internet but everything out there is rather dated pertaining to this. The Bombardier web site still shows Island Air operating the Q400 but if you go to the www.islandair.com they say they only fly the DH8 100 and 200.

The website says they are hiring. For a good laugh click on the Hawaii Rantals link on the hiring page and see what $1400 a month will get you. I swear I saw some of these places on Dog the Bounty Hunter.

A few weeks ago I was at flight safety in SEA-TAC, and a guy was talking about it there. Had something to do with a contract/agreement they had with I think Aloha… Now that they are gone maybe the Q400 will come back.

I don't know if it makes a difference or not, but I might have to do with Island air taking over EAS routes in the midwest.

They stopped using them after having 2 tail strikes. I dont think they had a program set up where you do you first actual flight with passengers and on two training flights they had tail strikes about 2.5 years ago. After 6 degrees you are going to strike the tail on a Q400

Knew a pilot that got furloughed last time, the info they had: Q400's were delayed by Bombardier over and over to the point it wasn't smart to hold onto what they had so they let 'em go.

Haha maybe good ole ship 539 left a bad taste in their mouth. It was always about the least reliable Q400 when QX had it. #3 Rud Hyd cautions every freakin' start.
