S5 ( Shuttle ) will start having them installed this month. We will have the Maptech charts ( very similar to NOS ) ... we have had some "online" training for the EFB's and charts.

I don't know when they'll all get installed. We just got an email that they installed one in a 200. I guess they have to get approved by the gov. first. I'll be surprised if its anytime soon but at least their making some prgress. Have to see.

FAA has to sign off on the deal.... AND we have to do a 6 month run with EFB's and still carry our Jepps.....

I walked in on a meeting about a year or so ago between base managers, HR and OSHA rep and they all flat out said we are not getting EFB's until they can justify the cost....basically they said until workers comp from pilot back injuries exceeds the cost of EFB we will not get them.

That's hilarious!

I don't know how the RJ pilots do it though. I only have 2 2-inch binders for the EMB-120 system, and my flight bag still seems way too heavy.

I think I might fare pretty well in a barfight now. With all the locals I've been doing, my forearms are getting pretty buff.

well i know thats what most the pilot group thinks. but having talked with some of the big hogs a year or so ago they said that it is not true. they still want it to get to the point where all we bring is a headset and a flash light. has nothing to do with "back Injuries" and such. they said that they would save thousands of dollars a month by going electronic, and thats what they want. instead of sending out 1400 revisions to lidos they would update 140 planes. instead of printing out thousands of revisions for our fom and cfm they would only have to electronically update the 140 planes.

you are right they don't care about our backs breaking, but they want to do it for the money savings not back savings.
