All Eagle Saabs being parked
#21
it'll be interesting to see what happens with all those displaced pilots. you figure that with 23 saab's parking that's probably 120 pilots...it'll be interesting to see what those guys go and do. another thing to think of is all those check airman and instructors going back to the line that have like 300 years with the company.

its sorta a trickle UP cycle....... I and some other on this board can remember when the companies or their predessors flew mainly 19 seat or ( smaller ) aircraft with some 30 seaters and 34 seaters thrown in.. Hell the ATR was the BIG mamma in those days. Those jetstreams and 1900's ( yes some still left ) are all but gone today... and the saab is just the next one on the block or so it would seem. Airlines have been getting bigger and bigger aircraft forever...... at ALL levels.........
The SAAB has been a great regional aircraft it will be sad to see it slip away over the next few years.

SAAB makes great cars, too!

If this were only true. Unfortunately, I wouldn't be surprised if Eagle got rid of the Saabs, only to have them magically reappear in Connection colors operated by somebody else.

i think i'm missing something here...but whenever i try to non rev the seats are always full...whenever i've flown in the past the airports are packed. people are still flying in full force! obviously management is doing something terribly wrong if a loaded plane is losing money. again maybe i need to take some more economic courses but c'mon. i do understand though that you need to takeoff with more than 50 ppl in the back to make it worth it...something eagle really cannot do with their fleet. AA is seriously nickel and diming it but charging for checked bags. just jacck and i mean jack the ticket prices. people will still fly. gas is like 4.50 a gallon and people are still buying it!!! i dunno these are just my thoughts but i sure as hell am learning alot everyday about this whole mess...

What a crazy industry. A earlier this year I was in a interview at AE with promises of record hiring, faster upgrades, and a lot of flying available for all. Some guys who accepted the job even chose the SAAB. Now they're talking about furlough and getting rid of a fleet. Good luck to all Eagle pilots I guess it is all about luck and timing in this industry.

The problem isn't one specific management team. A buddy of mine operates an online bookstore. He is constantly checking competitors' prices. Same titles will be priced one penny less than his, or vice versa. And that penny makes a difference.
Same with airline tickets. Many people buy online at sites that allow them to comparison shop prices. They will buy the cheapest connection. So United or American or US Airways is forced to keep the prices lower than the competition.
No doubt there are greater efficiencies to be had. But the way prices are set kills the possibility of profit.
Southwest is one of the few that bucks this trend. But they have the best operation anyway.
